I just bought a samsung 16X16X DVD Writer. I can write to cd-r's and dvd-rw's. However, it will not let me write to a DVD-R. Why is that? The specs are as follows:

It says on the bottom that this drive does not support dvd-r for authoring. Does this mean I cannot write onto DVD-r's? I don't get it. The manual says this drive supports both DVD-R and DVD+R disks to be written on. Please help. THanks. And yes, I have tried different disks.

Thanks again.

You can not burn to DVD-R, but you can read them. Chances are, you are mistaken about where it says it can burn to +/- media. Perhaps it states that boy media can be read.

Buy some DVD+R disks, and I'm sure you can author to them.

ok. Problem solved. For those of you interested:

Turns out that windows XP becomes extremely unstable when trying to use its' roxio script for writing to cd's. This becomes extremely unstable when trying to burn from the computer to a DVD-R without using another program to do it. I download a burning program and tried it. It works great. Thanks all. I can now burn to DVD-R and DVD-RW disks.

Superhero, I was going by this quote which he said was on the drive. Why be such a dildo?

I'm happy that you are able to burn DVD-R's cubanlord. Congrats for working out your problem. Some on here are neither mature enough, nor content with leaving it at that.
