Got this email from Rich...I don't know him...but, this is my contribution to the effort...

Hello,
I saw you online at Dave's ESL. For some strange reason I tried to register but was not able to. I want to post and ask some questions about teaching in Korea.

I'm totally new to this and would appreciate it if you can answer a few
questions.

I am in the U.S., college educated and am seriously considering going to Korea to teach. I have read a lot of the post on the forums. How do I know if the
organization is reputable? I have heard there are lists of schools to be wary of but can not find it on the net.

The organization that contacted me is www.entroduction.net . Have you heard of them? A representative from Korea called me and asked if I can start right away which made me suspicious, especially after reading some of the stuff on the forums. I'd be eternally greatful if you could offer me some advice..help..or whatever. Its a big decision and I don't want to get stuck.

Thanks,
Steven Richard Griffiths [email protected]

This alone is not enough to make me suspicious. Most things here in Korea are done at the last minute in a hurry up style. Most jobs here are filled at the last minute (often because no one got around to doing any preperation or planning). It seems to be a cultural trait.

What would worry me is a job offer from a school that asks you to start working before you get your work visa.

This recruiting company doesn't seem to be asking you to do this. They do give the impression that everything can be done in a month. It probably can, but actually finding the right job that fits you often takes longer. If you go with them, expect to be pressured to accept the first job they offer you. Personally, I think you are better off being offered several jobs and being able to select the one that offers most of what you are looking for...age/ability of students; location of school; salary; vacations and other benefits.

If these people are the same outfit that made my life hell in a few ways back in Spring, 2003, then I'd forget about taking their word at face value.

Their Guest House located just past Jahamun Tunnel sucked big time, too. Jongro Guru likely knows about these guys, etc.

Is your contact a Mr. Lee? Hmm, just curious because, if so, he is a sly mofo.

Mr. Lee? Hey, I know him! I met him on the subway yesterday!

... and at the gas station

... and on the sidewalk

... come to think of it, he is both my boss AND my student!

guy really gets around don't he?
