Could anyone recommend a good book about Korea to bring with me to the country? Some are full of pictures, some are full of 400 pages of history and some are just right. I'm looking for a thorough guide to all of Korea. Pictures are good to see what the cities have to offer; I'm not looking for exclusively 400 pages of political history here; I just want to know where to get off the beaten path and see some beautiful Korea.
Thanks |

lonely planet might be what you're looking for.
personally, i think guide books are a waste of time. most of what you need can be found on the internet and who wants to walk around carrying a guidebook looking like a complete greenhorn? |

Well not everyone wants to carry around a bunch of stapled papers either unless you are able to memorize the complete rout to all of Korea before coming in which case I commend you.
Also, what if the internet cafes have no printers and what if I dont come with a computer? |

I used Lonely Planet when I was in Korea and liked it a lot. Of course, there is more to see than what's in there, but at least you have something to start with. The thing I like best about it is that beside the English, there is Hangeul for all the places you want to go so if you're a Newbie and don't know how to read or pronouce English transliterations yet, then you can just point to the book.
There's no shame in guide-booking it! |

you'd be amazed at how much more fun travel is without everything planned out and memorized.

Never hurts to know a few things about your surroundings especially a few words or phrases in case you get lost. Bus routes, local monuments for directions as well. |
