I think some new forums could be added- personally, I haven't visited the off-topic forum for awhile because it has turned into the religion and sports forum. I nominate Fiveeagles to be the moderator of the religion forum. Hmmm- that's got me thinking. I wonder if the Mormons have a "Life in Korea" discussion board...

I think a rant forum would be cool, too Wink

I agree 100%. I'm tired of writing posts or trying to find something only to not be able to connect. It's rather annoying.

I think some software should be bought to run this site and not rely on 3-year old free software.

Ditto. It is costing Dave advertising dollars. I just leave his page entirely and go to worknplay or efl-law when it starts doing the Phbb thing. Just that many less clicks on his page.

Apparently, Dave doesn't care.

Besides, why should Dave add more forums? Fewer posts seem to be generated as it is (in the job forum, anyway).

Sorry to be a dissenting voice but I like Dave's much the way it is. The phpBB thing is annoying but then it probably keeps me from wasting too much time here. The off-topic and ranting stuff is fun if you're bored. The teaching forum has been a big help. And the members have all been so kind and intelligent. Rolling Eyes

While I do not doubt Dave is making quite enough for his time on this site, the fact that he offers an extremely useful site (especially for newbies to a country) for FREE is great. I am not being critical of him or the site, but I am sure the site makes enough money that he could somehow fix this problem. Or atleast he could tell us all why this is happening and why it can't be solved quickly. All I really need is a "Sorry, so and so is happening. We'll try to fix it as soon as we can." Nothing much.

how about a forum where only foreigners can join using their ID cards!
I mean koreans dont let us join their clubs so why dont we make it fair!
and also its a forum just for our eyes, the foreigners who live here.

also I suggest we bring back another forum or two .. its getting real boring

I doubt that many foreigners really care, and a trolling Korean reporter could just bribe a westerner to get himself an ID.

An idea just to 'stick it to the Koreans' will in turn stick it to every foreigner without an ARC and living outside of Korea. A large demographic of users who lurk here don't live in Korea and are gathering research. If an ARC-only forum came about and really took off, newb research could suffer to some extent, even if the forum is only an off-topic one. A little counter-productive in the spirit of trying to raise awareness on how the next crop of teachers can successfully live and work in this country.

The errors are a pain in the backside.

I'd like some reform on the swear filter, it can be got around but some of the words that are filtered out are just plain silly. Not a big deal but it is a bit prudish.

I think there are plenty enough forums here, we don't need anymore really. The only forums that could be useful would be city or province specific forums, as the site is quite Seoul based and we don't all spend all our time in Seoul.

The main improvement would certainly be a more reliable Phbb script.

How could this forum verify if a ARC is valid or bullshit.

I can just see Dave sending a letter to Korean Immigration

" Hi guys can you send me a list of all ARC in Korea. Oh and could you update it everymonth...adding new ARC and removing old ones"

Yep..that'll happen anyday.

In fact I nomitate IG to Mod this forum and update all changes in the ARC list.

Have fun:)

"Money, it's a crime.
Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie.
Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil today.
But if you ask for a raise it's no surprise that they're
giving none away..."

"HuHuh! I was in the right!"
"Yes, absolutely in the right!"
"I certainly was in the right!"
"You was definitely in the right. That geezer was cruising for a bruising!"
"Yeah!"
"Why does anyone do anything?"
"I don't know, I was really drunk at the time!"
"I was just telling him, he couldn't get into number 2. He was asking
why he wasn't coming up on freely, after I was yelling and
screaming and telling him why he wasn't coming up on freely.
It came as a heavy blow, but we sorted the matter out"

I might sit here and scare up half a dozen ideas that would have some appeal, but I'd rather not distract the powers that be from fixing this:

What is it? Lack of money? Lack of time? Lack of knowhow? Lack of concern? A twisted desire to irritate and annoy the hell out of people? (actually, I can appreciate that one! Razz )
