Kia ora, and, ah yeah gidday.

Anyone know the best place to go skiing... and from where and when to catch what bus, if one be living in the Bucheon or Incheon areas?

I've got a precious day or two's break during the week, and want to spend it on some skiable snow. I want to minimise the time spent travelling, and although I know Yongpyong and Pheonix Park are supposed to be the best fields, they're so far away it seems a bit extra-excessive.

I've been to Bear's Town, and that was an interesting experience. I'm hoping other fields are ... um ... better still.

Anyone been to Suanbo Sajo Resort? I'm guessing it gets swamped by people from Daejon...?

And hey, anyone been on some boards during last year's Solal break? A few years ago during the Solal holiday on Friday or Monday, the field was empty but for foreigners, but I've heard a rumour that more Koreans are skipping the familial responsibility thing and hitting the slopes instead. Things changed yet?

mate i was just about to make a new post asking bout the same kind of thing, will be coming over to live in seoul in about a week or so. I chose to come over here in winter so to get some more skiing in (been living in Queenstown NZ).

Sorry can't answer your question but would someone please answer it please.

Also does anyone know how much ski/board (either or) equipment is to hire and the quality of it? (I am not to tall and my feet are only size 10). Should i bring my own stuff over

And last of all how is the season this year? (i know the skiing is not as good as USA/Europe but compared to NZ/AUST

Sorry mate for tackin this on to your post but thought it a bit silly to have two posts about nearly the same thing

Yeah, they are far, but Yongpyong and Phoenix are regarded as some of the best places to go. Yongpyong and the Pyongchang area around it form the basis for Korea's 2014 Olympic bid.

Travel from the Bucheon area:
Yongpyong resort has a bus that goes (very early) from Joongdong (across from the Homeplus) or Songnae station (beside Toona).

It's all in Korean so you'll probably need some help from a friendly co-worker to make a reservation.

Adventure Korea, www.adventurekorea.com, run weekend ski trips to Phoenix all through the winter. Very popular with the ex-pat community, they provide a good opportunity for skiing and socialising, and are always sold out well in advance. Usually a good mix of novices and seasoned pros, too, so there's something for everyone. That's where I started out last season.

The other ski hills should have buses running from all over central Seoul (Yeoido, Sinchon, Gangnam, Jamsil) and usually have an English website you can look at. The KNTO website has a pretty comprehensive list:
http://english.tour2korea.com/03Sightseeing/SKI/ski01_01.asp?kosm=m3_7

Ski/board rental runs from about 20,000-35,000 a day. And rentals are rentals, wherever you go, so if you've got your own gear, you should probably bring it. Besides, you'll be a lot more comfortable with your own stuff.

Only my second season on the slopes in Korea (or anywhere else for that matter) so cant say much but, compared to little old Ireland, the skiing is just fine Very Happy Very Happy .
Seriously, though, there's a lot of artificial powder at the moment, except in the south, which got dumped on by a good half-metre of snow before Christmas.

The Solnal rumors are a little disquieting, yeah. Was kinda hoping to have the place to myself this year.
