One thing I've always noticed about the high Korean holy days like Chuseok and Sollal is newspapers always go out, find two slightly befuddled looking young blond women, dress them in hanboks, and photograph them trying their best at making kimchi. For some reason this is hilarious to Koreans.

The western equivalent takes place on Christmas, New Years, and Orthodox Christmas. Each day, every news organization in North America can't get enough of people who celebrate these days with "polar bear swims". Typically it's a bunch of middle aged men and 3 women who run into a half frozen lake wearing speedos and then just as quickly come charging out. The newscaster always makes some pithy comment and then they go to the sports scores.

Do we need to know people do this 3 times a year?
