Does anyone know of some concept checking questions to use when teaching the past continuous.I'm trying to distinguish between this tense and the past simple.

I.e... At 9am I was reading a newspaper.
At 9am I read a newspaper.

These are the ones i came up with so far....

1) Is the sentence in the past, present or future? - Past
2) Am i reading a newspaper now? - No

Any advice or examples woudl really help......

Many thanks!

2) When did I finish reading the newspaper? -- after 9 am
3) Was the action complete at 9am? -- no
4) Why is this in the travel forum? Surprised
