Nice little article: http://english.ohmynews.com/articleview/article_view.asp?article_class=2&no=265571&rel_no=1

I've seen a lot of posters on Dave's who are involved in volunteer work. For those who aren't, check out the article. . . .

Another regular visitor, Sharon Devereux of New Zealand, said she deals with attachment issues by spending time with a lot of children instead of only a few. Devereux began volunteering three months ago thinking she would be teaching English. She quickly realized volunteers' main purpose was to help keep the kids occupied and to give the regular staff members some needed relief.

I only managed to go a few times to Hwasung (its a 4hour round trip for me) but its a place filled with lovely kids. If you have time on the weekends then I highly recommend you going.

I've always hoped to adopt a kid after I have my first one with me wife (when I get her Smile) but telling Korean people always has generated utter shock and a confusion as to why i'd wanna adopt.

I have a couple of close friends who are adopted, changing someones life like that is so awesome, I wish that Korean peeps could see it that way.

I don't know if it would just make me angry, knowing that a lot of the kids are not orphans, but just kids discarded by their parents.

They're innocent and deserve a lot better.

We were watching a Korean programme just last night about orphans in Korea.

Hubby and I agreed that after we have baby #2 biologically, we will adopt.

Is it even still possible to adopt a baby from Korea? I had heard this was stopped, or people are basically trying to stop it? I thought I read some posters on here really slamming Holt once. The basic jist of it was that the organization stole babies from the Korean people, was called a cult, etc.

Maybe someone who posted that will read this and explain.

Korea remains the only nation with a per-capita income over $10K that still permits overseas adoptions, though the outflow has dropped to about half of all orphans.

When I wanted to volunteer, I was told that it could be seen as 'work' and thus a violation of my e-2.

Tell them to stick it, check it and then charge it!

Seriously, if they are going to kick me out of the country because I am volunteering. Then this is a law I am going to break and enjoy.
