| I'm letting my kids watch movies on each Friday of my camp, but I'm not sure what exercises will work. What movie exercises have you found useful? I was intending to let them watch the whole movie. |

| Well, what I did with my high scholers was to give them a cast list. Tell them who was who in the film. They then chose their favorite character, said whether they were a good or bad guy and talked about their favourite and least favourite scene with this character in it. |

Actually that would probably be the best way to get them to re-sign for another year, if they have any say in it. |

| I liked to have them write a summary of the movie's plot. It's both a good way to practice past tenses and it gets them to write creatively, which some really struggle with. It's a different skill than speaking creatively. |

Only on Mondays.
Bitterly condescending on Tuesdays.
Spitefully arrogant on Wednesdays.
Excessively presumptuous on Thursdays.
And just plain uppity on Fridays. |

Movies are great teaching tools for kids during the summer break. I can make a 90 minute movie stretch out over 5-6 teaching 90 minute classes here's how.
Make sure you get a movie that you know that the kids haven't seen. So my kids studied the Princess Bride during the summer and we just finished the Never Ending Story during the winter. Think back to kids movies you liked inthe 80s, your students will probably like them too and will never seem it otherwise.
Day 1. Introduction lesson. Do a lesson on the themes of the movie. For neverending story we did a lesson on adjectives to describe people and places. I gave them pictures of characters to the movie they hadn't seen and asked them to using describing words about these people.
Day 2 and Day 3 Watch the movie. I have a worksheet that the kids complete during the movie. Before something dramatic I ask the kids what they think is going to happen. During an important scene I'll have questions so that we can talk about that.
Day 4. Complete a DVD cover of the movie. On one side of the paper they draw a picture that they think bests represents the movie and on the other side they do a movie review.
Day 5 If the movie has a theme song do a lesson on that....
Day 6 Acting out key scenes can be fun... I still have kids telling me 'hello my name is ignigo montaya you killed my father prepare to die' 6 months after we studied it. |

| I usually make a scavenger-hunt type activity for a video. For example, "list five things you need for a cookout," or "list three ways you can say hello to a friend on the phone." |
