Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone has any information on Suncheon or Yongin to please pm me. I was offered some good jobs in both places and wanted to talk to someone who has either been to both or at least travelled or lived in both places. I need to do a comparison, post your thoughts if you like, That would be great.
Thanks a bunch! |

Yongin has Everland, which is good for a trip or two (maybe the waterpark is nice in the summer, didn't go there though). I haven't really been there other than the once but just incase you get no other information, I figure it must have some amenities (sp?) for a big amusement park to be there. |

Yongin is fairly sprawling. Parts are within walking distance to the Bundang subway line (if you don't mind walking for more than 30 mins.) And parts are connected by bus to places on the Bundang line. They put me up in a motel that was a ten minute ride to Migeum station.
Then there's parts that can take 30 minutes by bus to get to a subway station.
I enjoy the parts of Yongin I've seen, although since it's so close to Seongnam and Seoul (sort of) I've liked just actually living in Bundang better. |

If I were you, I'd choose Yongin. It's an hour from Seoul on the subway
line. Suncheon is in the deep south where there's much anti-western sentiment
and no cosmopolitan and global elements. |

Rubbish. There's not much anti-western sentiment here. Why did you say that? Can you give some examples? I've been living in and around Suncheon for about a year and a half and seen very very little anti-western sentiment. You're right that it isn't all that cosmopolitan though. |

Yongin is fairly cosmopolitan. It has Wallmart, Homeplus, E-mart and any number of other major stores. Buses to either the subway or 1600 won bus-direct to Seoul. It is a satellite city of Seoul with lots of commuters, excellent transportation and shopping. It continues to get built up and grow. I am just guessing here but I would imagine that the population is now over 1 million. Just another small town.
You also have the Korean Folk Village, Everland, the raceway at Everland and the waterpark (Caribbean Bay).
Can't tell you anything about Suncheon, sorry. |

Suncheon is great ! Actually a wonderful city of a quarter million. And it is CLOSE to Gwangju, sure 50-60 minutes by bus, but considering the time it takes to get from one side of Seoul to the other, or from Incheon to Seoul, the distance from Suncheon to the big city of Gwangju is nominal. You can easily go to Gwangju often on the weekends, not to mention TONS of great weekend trips to sights in the south.
Suncheon is near Yeosu, worth a few weekends, Boseong green tea fields and one could be at some awesome south coast warm clear water beaches well before noon on a Saturday, westward (to Wando region) or eastward. Jiri National (Mountain) Park isn't far away, and one could hop over to the eastern province of Gyeongsangnamdo to Jinju, Tongyeong, even here on the island, or make the two hour trip to Busan by lunchtime on Saturday.
Suncheon has a VERY nice hip, modern cool-looking shopping and nightlife district. Seriously, it's like a mini-Nampodong (trendy Busan area). I have been there four times, each time while passing through on my journeys. The last couple of times I've stayed in a nice hotel for 25,000 won. The prices in that city are so cheap!
I think it's almost ideally located for outdoor fun and cultural trips.
It's big enough to have what you need, and close enough to a major city (Gwangju) to make enough foreigner friends too.
I would gladly work in Suncheon. In my travels throughout the country I've only found two or three other small cities that compare.
It's not for everyone, but for some it'd be great!
Promoting itself as an environmentally-wonderful city, here's a video profile that - while overdoing it - does show some of the small city's strengths:
