Place your bets now.
My money is on one of three likely candidates:Brazil/Argentina/Italy.
I also feel Germany as the hosts and Holland could possibly win it though it's less likely.
Dark horses capable of providing a surprise or two could be Ghana/Ivory Coast/Australia/Czech republic/Ukraine.
What do you think?

OK then, I'll say Italy. Basically because I feel they have the right balance of young and experienced players coached by a man who has won just about every club tournament and they haven't won it since 1982. So it's about b.loody time Very Happy

No way Italy.

If we don't meet Brazil before the final, England all the way.

Even when the team is crap we pull it out for the big tournements, and if it wasn't for some really crap penalties, we'd have a couple more than 1966 I'm sure. The thing is, this current team is far from crap - on paper the best in the world (bar the obvious one, who is better?), and if THIS TEAM can pull it out, goodbye everyone else.

Baldrick,

I love a good football debate. I get the feeling that you're English, right? So am I, but there's no way I would say that England have the best team in the world. What on earth gave you that idea???
You mentioned that England always pull it out for the BIG tournaments but apart from Italia 90 and Euro 96(held in England) when did they last go close to winning a major tournament?
Let's also not forget that Italy have won the World Cup three times, the last time being 1982 in Spain, plus they reached the semi-final in 1990, the final in 1994, the quarter-final in 1998 after losing on penalties to eventual winners France, and they also reached the final of Euro 2000 losing only to a golden goal. Can England say the same thing? In short and simple language:NO
Of course England have had their fair share of bad luck in recent tournaments, but sometimes you make your own luck. The current England side are contenders, but then again so are another five or six teams. It seems that the magic of Sven Goran Eriksson is fading away and I can't see him being in charge for the next Euro's, especially if England fail to go far next summer.

Very Happy England Very Happy

You should work for the Sun. England winning the World Cup is just not going to happen. If it does I will cut off my balls like that Welsh guy.
I reckon Italy or Brazil. I also like Spain but I put a bet on them last Euro and they sorely disappointed.

A surprise yes, winning the cup? Er, naw. My vote goes to Brazil--Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Adriano, Kaka, Robhino...Christ, that is almost sick to have that much talent, but on chance of their slip-up, I do think England has the best shot they've ever had. It takes an under-rated England side to do well with the amount of public/media pressure...and this time they have less expectations, but still have incredible talent in Owen, Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard, Rio, and that hom0seksual right midfielder as well.

Then again, going by my student poll, South Korea will win it all. Sadly, they all SERIOUSLY think SK has a great shot, and the oddsmakers are just anti-asian... Rolling Eyes My students also think Park Ji Sung is legitimately one of the THREE best players in the world next to Ronaldo and Van Nistlerooy... Confused

The questions here should be not who will win the Cup but :

1) Will Korea get a point?

2) Will they score a goal?

3) If so how many of each

I say 1 point, they'll get a draw somewhere and will score 1 goal

I'll let you into a secret, technically (i.e. in any real sense) I know next to nothing about football and am just totally ruled by the fact I would give thousands and thousands of pounds to see England win.

So, yeah, England. Deffo.
