A friend of mine will be visiting me for a month beginning in February. She is concerned about emergencies, etc... she doesn't have insurance back home while she looks for a new job.

I've heard that in Korea the insurance is a little bit lenient... in fact before I got mine, all my Korean friends told me, "Oh just use mine! I'll give you my card!" I've been told many times that they never check ID at hospitals or clinics, just the card.

What has been your experience on this? If my friend comes and has some sort of problem (She has stomach issues that Korean food might trigger), will she be allowed to use my insurance? Or if she isn't, what are some possible repercussions for our attempt?

Thanks guys.

Why doesn't she just get travel insurance? It's not that expensive. The one I used in the past was AIG.

Obviously lending your card is not a smart thing to do.
