Following up on the "What degree do you have?" thread in General, if you could have your time over again, would you have made the same decision or chosen to study something else -and why?
I studied Mathematics but it bored me stupid having to prove that 1=1 and learn every theorum 'parrot fashion'; a distinct lack of creativity and, with the score I got, completely useless in the real world.
For pure love of studying, I would have chosen History (upon learning I hadn't, my high-school History teacher dismissed the sciences as "a) Fizz, b) Bang or c) Boom" subjects). With hindsight, I then would have specialised in Central American History post-Columbus. However, this choice would have left me equally lacking in job opportunities.
Computer Science could have been a lucrative choice at the time; just before the dot.com boom. An Applied Mathematics course would have been more interesting than the pure one that I took. Straight Accountancy has the highest graduate pay of any degree in England, but the tedium (many of my friends are doing this now) and lack of alternative work are not something I'd choose even today.
So many options but you can only pick one. Personally, I wish I'd taken a year or two out in the big, wide world so that I could make a better choice of how to spend the next four years. I never really thought about it much at the time. |

Ha ha ha! I never liked it when my parents gave me the third degree. I liked it even less when my university gave me one. |

I've taken two courses in each of these two disciplines which would suit me well with my present and future interests, so I say I'd study:
anthropology
and
fine arts (photography) |

For pleasure: History
For future employment opportunities: English, of course!
Unfortunately, I didn't know that I wanted to be a teacher until I became one. I didn't know what I wanted to major in, so I majored in Business at first. That was dry as dirt, so I changed my major to something more suitable for a young man who doesn't know what he wants to do - Philosophy! Not very useful, but boy I sure can think good now (note to grammar police: I'm attempting irony here). |

I have a Computer Science degree, and I wouldn't really change it as it is useful in a lot of ways (also there was a Co-op program, paid most of my 5 years tuition and gave me 3 years valid experience before even graduating not to mention tons of contacts) but I wish I had gone with a concurrent Education too. I might still get my BEd, but I would have to take a few more arts courses to meet the requirments.
Though for pure interest: History (especially military)
If I get another degree: Linguistics (Bachelor and Masters) with a minor in Chinese |

What degree you ask?
Does it have to be in Celsius or Fahrenheit? Will supernove suffice?
Seriously though, I would like to do something like International Trade learning another language.
If a chose a degree just for the fun of it, I would choose philosophy or archeology. |

I would've and should've gone for dance cause I know I could get into the program and I would have adored it.
Just.. a career as a dancer is so short and risky.. agh.
(ps: I went for early childhood education, and don't even get me started on the kindergartens out here. Makes me sick.) |

Nice to see so many people would have chosen History had they had the chance, even if only for pleasure (in my mind History is the perfect Liberal Arts discipline; sorry English and Philosophy ). If I could do it again I would take the same degrees (History); if I had the time and ability I would love to try a Math degree. |

I htink taking something more practical than visual art would have been beneficial financially. But in terms of pure enjoyment and learning I thought it really drew from many subjects and was super-interesting |
