I went to DC today to take care of some important stuff, including having copies of diploma notarized so I can get my visa. I went to the embassy, where I was told to head over to the consulate down the street. Ok, no sweat. I get into the consulate and am put in front of the appropriate window.

The woman takes one look at my degree and gets a look on her face somewhere between confusion and horror. She wants to know where it is from -- I answer. Oh, no, she says, we can't confirm US diplomas here. You must go to New York. Not having time to freaking drive to NY where I JUST WAS A WEEK AGO IF SOMEBODY HAD FRIGGING TOLD ME ABOUT THIS I took the risk of mailing original diploma.

I just want to take this opportunity to send a big shout-out to everyone who made this moment possible, from the shady directors to the illegal teachers to the bureaucrats who don't know what they're doing. It couldn't have happened without you guys. *chokes back tears*

I am confused. Why are you thanking people? It sounds like sarcasim.

I used the DC Korean embassy and consulate. I have names of people I KNOW there. That was not the consulate that I "should" have used. They were very quick! I wouldn't use any other consulate in the states.

So you mailed you documents to NY?

No, I mailed everything to Korea because there wasn't time to wait for NY.

I just knew somebody would say they did it in DC. I am actually pretty pissed off about this because the embassy was where I was told to go.

Looks like the Koreans abroad have about as much as a clue as the ones here.

And today I get an e-mail telling me that the guy I just spent $67 to send my stuff to signed someone else instead. Whoops! He just forgot to tell me! It totally slipped his mind. Ha ha!
