obviously in opposition to the worst textbook thread - post the best in here!

for me, the smart phonics series 1 through 5 have been great for teaching my kindys how to read. after 1 year they can now read most common words and are about 50% on a lot of difficult ones. Thats coming from NOTHING at the start of the year. Lots of exercises, reading, writing, listening etc. the best phonics program i have seen so far.

elementary/middle i would say the national geographic books are pretty good. they contain good pictures, good exercises, the tapes are fantastic, and there is even the korean translations in the book for when you really stuck trying to explain vocabulary such as 'close' or 'enough'.

for adults the best so far has been side by side but its not without its faults. i'm looking for better suggestions than this. new person to person wasnt too bad either but the pictures were very old.

You just shot any credibility you may have had down the toilet.

i couldn't think of a worst all around commercially available textbook.

If you start a uni gig then the uni will give you a text.

We use World Link. I've found it pretty good and easy to teach.
Everyone seems to love Interchange, but I never thought it was that good.

I didn't either until 3rd edition and I was forced to teach it. Now I think it is pretty good, though a little too much listening

for beginners I would recommend the firsthand series.

My university uses an in house book, but I supplement heavily with my own material.

I haven't been teaching all that long but the English Time Series is probably the best text I use for the kids.
I have Express Yourself text for the adults, which is a pretty decent book. I have the side by side but don't use it often.

English Time is good. Let's Go is also very good... possibly my favourite book to teach from so far. The EFL Phonics series is the best I've seen for teaching phonics.

i think the English time and let's Go series work well together Magic Time 1 and 2 with let's go Starter and 1, English Time 1 with let's go 2, English Time 2 with Let's go 3, ect.

I also use the Grade 1 Comprehensive Curriculum with a mixed class of youngsters because it's geared toward the target skills of an American classroom and it has lots and lots of pages, plenty of past and future tense -- plus, if the kids are pissing m off, we go to the math section!
