One of the greats in his era, Kirby passed away today at 45. Too bad, I used to love driving down to MPLS on occasion from Canada to see him play in the metrodome.
He was a project kid that made it big. He made the hall on his first attempt, not easy to do but voters no doubt were influenced by his good nature and love for the game and his baseball prowess.
Forced to quite after 12 years due to being blind in one eye.
His smile was the best around the big leagues.
RIP Kirby |

I was in a club called the Big Bamboo several years ago in Vancouver eating sushi when Kirby Puckett and Cecil Feilder sat down at the sushi bar. These 2 guys were built like linebackers and proceeded to eat more sushi than I thought possible. I talked to them both a bit-just very cool guys who had never been to Vancouver before (Seattle was playing some ex games there before the season started and Fielder was with Detroit and Puckett with the Twins) and absolutely loved the city, the ocean, mountains, clean air the people and of course the women. When I offered to buy them a beer Puckett said -nah let us buy you one, we probably make a couple of more bucks than you do. I became an instant fan of both of these guys after that night. Nothing pretentious about either of them.
He died way before his time-a real shame. |
