Two quite different things which I'm wondering about life in Korea... bearing in mind I'm not out there quite yet

I'm a big fan of the internet whilst I'm at home, and altho I intend to see a lot of Korea and possibly the surrounding countries, having an internet access in my apartment, and not just school, will be of utmost importance as I will be bringing my WiFi equipped Laptop...

I can imagine that your location will play a big part, and I intend to teach in Seoul or Daegu... I've heard lots about the 100MBit lines that Korea has which I would simply drool over, lol... but essentially I'd like to know:

1. Will my apartment be equipped?
2. If not, given that the wireless coverage is so broad, will I be able to browse through that anyway
3. If I wanted to subscribe to an ISP what monthly fees, and what speed could I expect with a residential package?

Thanks!!!

I think Korea is probably one of the most wired nations in the world for internet. I got cable internet with Dreamline for 31,000 Won a month. It was very fast. They come and hook it up almost immediately after you call. They even gave me a free headset with a microphone and a new mouse.

Don't be surprised if someone tells you it's not. My first boss said my building couldn't have Internet, but the landlords told me everyone else already did. I think my boss didn't want me staying up late at night on the Internet.

My router was on the blink once, but I still had wireless internet on my notebook from the ambient wireless networks from my many neighbors. I could have had free internet, but I hate the lag with wireless so I got my own service anyway. Korea is really wired. I noticed this when I went back to Chicago and saw people still using dial-up modems. And all wireless networks being paid, even the ambient networks from city center networks. Shesh~

I have a LinkSys 4 port wireless hub in my place and it works great.
As for hotspots. Sign up with Nespot; I pay 15K/month and have never had a problem

If you live in Gangnam area, definately sign up for the cable modem deal because they give you cable TV (which you would have gotten anyway), and the Gangnam cable modem speed is supposedly the fastest broadband service, handsdown, of anywhere in Korea. The deal is a two-for-one at 30k won a month ($30 US). (Although I can't tell one broadband service to another in speed difference--even a T1 line at a "PC bang" doesn't seem that much faster.) With the Gangnam cable TV deal, if you get a wireless hub (somewhat expensive), you got wireless all over the apartment (but pick a good wireless hub though).
