This thread is going to be devoted to MAKING GOALS and holding yourself accountable to them on this thread!!

The main idea is that these goals are something you WILL do on a short-term basis.. for example, lets say ONE MONTH!!

So make a goal and try to do it. It can be something as simple as drinking 6-8 glasses of water everyday (for a month), running every other day for a month, working on your novel at least 5 hours each weekend, or whatever you want it to be!!

Also make sure your goal is achievable!!

Mine for this month (starting March 27) are:

1) Spend one hour each day finishing up my MA Thesis!!
2) Develop a modest daily exercise/work-out routine.
3) Update the last four months of my blog!

New ones to be announced 4 weeks from now.. Cool

I vow to keep doing the stuff I always do. And maybe try to do more stuff as well.

This is a real cool idea TB but I tend to be a big picture guy. (i.e. in the year 2020 I will be the first honorary Korean-Hungarian-Israeli-American Governor of Arkansas). Any suggestions on how to go about this month to month thing? Seriously...

Sure! You just need to make a short-term goal that aligns itself with that long-term goal.

For that example, perhaps you would make a short-term achievable goal related to politics - maybe reading 2 biographies of similar politicians within the next month, or plan to research some aspect of how to go about being a governor, or running for political offices, or something of the like.

You could never really be the first honorary Korean-Hungarian-Israeli-American Governor of Arkansas for example, without climbing each and every rung on the ladder.

Yeah, I like the idea, but maybe you should add to your goals that of keeping this thread alive. Such things often sink into oblivion.

Also, Tigerbeer, I thought you had finished the M.A. PLEASE be sure to finish it, it becomes more difficult if you are away from school and are doing other things.

My one month goals:

Organized the rest of my semester's course work.

Start working on an article or two for publication.

Be it resolved that I shall:

go to the gym three days per week
learn to cook two new healthy dishes at home
study my Korean textbooks at least twice per week

Phew, that ought to be enough.

I hearby swear to the greater ESL community that I will:

1. Continue to try to wean myself off caffeine and the expensive ice lattes I consume on a sometimes twice daily basis Sad

2. Continue to watch my spending (last week I resisted the urge to buy a 15,000 won FLOWER POT, manufactured in Thailand, from Casamia- I need to avoid that store altogether... Bought 2 3000 won clay pots instead)

3. Listen harder when doing assessments instead of engrossing self in threads on Dave's

4. Study Korean AT LEAST 10-20 min. daily

5. Exercise every other day (pulled a muscle yesterday- must suck it up)

6. Be more tolerant of the locals (REALLY try to ignore the kids from my apt. complex who yell F*** You)

I have 65 pages written so far.. and need to have 80-100 total. I was going at it strong right up until I came to Korea - and then everything went on hold. Its my #1 goal (to get back into the mindset and start writing again SOON! - an hour a day at least is the goal!)

Keeping the thread alive should be easy.. all it takes is two people holding each other accountable because of similar goals.

The other beauty of this thread is its ONLY a ONE month goal. Meaning it has its end point - so anyone can hold the other person accountable by viewing the post dates and asking about it one month later. Cool

Okay, time to call people out. It's been a month. Did you meet your goals? Let's hear it, Tiger Beer, Blind Willie, Desultude, Zyzyfer, Saxiif, Kermo, Hypnotist, and Periwinkle.

I, for one, swore off booze and drinking unless I was out with the owner or on my visa run.

I'm happy to say that I was able to manage it. I drank hard going to and from Japan and with the owner a couple of times, but that was it.

I'm going to come back and make some resolutions for May once I think of some suitable ones. If scarneck comes through on some other thread about the clamato, then you can throw not drinking during the month out the window, I tell you what. Very Happy

One for one on the thread, baby. I hope we hear some more good things. Cool

Congratulations!!

Nice one!!

I did update my website which was a minor goal. I started on my Thesis Paper (which was goal #1).. funny I thought about this thread as holding me accountable.. but didn't know if anyone took it serious enough.. and I admit I slacked on it!! Embarassed Embarassed

Okay, give me a few days.. and I'm going to set some very accountable 1-month goals (such as the Thesis Paper!).. especially for MAY - starting in a couple days!

Congrats on giving up drinking for a month though! That would be one struggle I wouldn't be able to undertake!
