Hello,

I have been using a crock pot quite a bit since returning to Canada and tonight I got thinking, hmmm, why didn't I use one while in Korea? It sure would have added to what I could have prepared. I don't know why I never thought of buying one while I was there. I am so excited now I may come back. Rolling Eyes I don't think I ever saw one though.

Has anyone seen a crock pot over there? Does anyone over there own one and use it? What have you made?

Chaio,

Costco has Crock-pot brand slow cookers, and HomePlus carries a Korean brand of slow cooker. Seems to work just as well as the name brand and it's cheaper than the one at Costco. Wink

I borrow my neighbors cuz I'm too cheap right now to buy one ( Twisted Evil ) and I've made scalloped potatoes and rice pudding so far. When I go off my diet and I'm actually eating dinner again, I suppose I'll go buy my own and experiment with other stuff.

I made a pork roast in it. I cooked it in some apple juice and added fresh rosemary. Quite tasty.

My stepmom used to wear the crock pot out, man. She'd cook those beans until they were dessicated and completely lacking any taste. She scarred me for life where crockpots are concerned. Too bad for me, but I wish you all well in your crock potting endeavors.

May I also suggest the George Foreman grill? The small model doesn't take up too much luggage space and helps the bachelor get out of the two burner fry everything to death routine. My kingdom for an oven!

No kidding. I went for a year without one when in hagwon hell. Now I have one and there's no turning back baby!!

Hmm... maybe dinner tonight will be baked chicken & cornbread. Mmmmm.

I'd still love a George Foreman grill. I think I'll pick on up next time I'm Stateside.

Be careful Krats...without a voltage converter you may end up flambaying whatever you put on that grill Laughing

I had a Crock-pot kind of thing in Korea.. (Where the heck is it?? Sad )
It was shallower than a real one, though.
I used it for a few parties. Taco seasoned ground beef and a cubed
brick of Velveeta make an awesome dip. Add Pace picante to taste.

I have a crock pot. I never use it as I don't have the time in the morning to prepare everything to put in it so I can have lunch. And during lunch break, well, same story. Sometimes I use it on the weekends, but then I feel silly. Mainly, it has been sitting there looking pretty. I am much fonder of my pressure-cooker. Now that is something I should have bought a LONG time ago. No more overnight soaking of the grains...just pop them right in there. *drool*

I use mine to cook soups, stews, chili, etc. Throw all the ingredients in before leaving for school, turn it on low, and have dinner waiting when I get home from work. Hmm. Maybe I should put both the crock pot and the breadmaker to work mid-week and come home to split pea soup with Italian herb bread on the side. Very Happy

Big fan of the breadmaker/crockpot combination.

For a while there had a serious Tuesday night "friends over for dinner" routine. I'd set it up Tuesday morning, meet my friends at the bar after work tuesday evening, and we'd arrive back at my place to wonderful smells.

Our cleaning lady came every wednesday morning. Even better.

Favourite recipes? Lasanga. Stew. Roast Chicken and new potatoes. Moussaka.

Crock pots rule.

My favorite is a pork roast/loin in the crockpot. Get a hefty size piece (2 kg) and brown it on all sides. Toss it in the bottom and add:
1 sliced up apple
1/2 sliced up onion
1/2 cup brown sugar over the top of everything already in the pot.

Let it cook on low for 6-8 hours and it is the BEST pork you'll ever have. Incredibly moist, just a hint of sweetness (most of the sugar turns into water and bubbles around the meat). It makes awesome leftovers, too...pulled pork sandwiches! Mmmmm. It's so good, I think I'll have to go to the store and get a roast! Very Happy

Oooooooooh... this is a dangerous post when I'm hungry and dieting!!!!!

(pssst... so, what should I ask for when I go to the supermarket to get the meat? I've never bought anything more than minced pork here...)
