this was inspired by Ilsanman's hospital story. If you (or your wife) had a baby in Korea, how was the overall hospital experience? Do they let you keep the baby in the room with you? How much is a private room? How long is the average hospital stay? Can the husband be in the delivery room?

This wouldn't be shorthand for "Peri's Bakery Announces New Online Bun in the Oven", would it?

See kids, this is what can happen when you have unprotected cyber-sex. You get online buns in your oven.

4 years ago my wife had our first (the second is coming in February). The hospital was great - we went to the Samsung Cheil Hospital in Chungmuro. I was in the delivery room though that was due to some luck. They only have 2 or 3 family rooms so if the baby comes at a time when those rooms are being used too bad. You have to pay for those rooms in 8 hour blocks so if labor is 8 hours or less you pay once if your labor is 8 hours or more you pay for an additional block. (can't remember how much it cost).

We wanted a semi-private (2 moms) room for recover but they were all full and at the time we couldn't afford the single room. So we ended up in a room with 5 moms. My wife stayed for nights and then left early in the afternoon on Sunday.

The baby can be in the room for short times. However we know several couples who had the private recovery room (at different hospitals) and the baby was in the room for the entire hospital stay.

Our total cost was less than 300,000 won.

My little fella is approaching a month now....my wife had him at Mirae hospital in Apgujeong....she had a private room...i would compare to a small bachelor apt...seperate shower , sofa, bar style fridge, cable...etc...

...the baby was allowed to stay in the room almost all the time...except for check ups and what not....but all night was no prob...total cost was under a million won for 3 days private room, delivery, the works...that was with health insurance under my school too

....I was in the delivery room and was allowed to cut the umbilical cord...it was the greatest and worst thing i ever saw....horrific....the movie Aliens has nothing on childbirth.... Shocked

...good luck Very Happy

Aw, Hell no, no yet~ just curious. Have to get on the wagon first. Wink

(Ok, alot off topic, but I wonder how many bottles of soju are equivalent to a bottle of whiskey?)

Anyway, can you imagine being stuck in a hospital room with 5 other moms? Good luck getting any sleep in there.

Ha ha, you should try giving birth on the good old British NHS, unless you pay for it you will have a whole ward full of mummies to compare notes with Laughing

My wife is pregnant too and is expecting at the end of May.

Fortunately, our director pays our medical bills and is covering our costs. He is a really generous guy, but from what I have read so far and other threads, the cost isn't too inhibitive.

The health care can't be too bad, look at all the kids that are around. Something must be working for them. Wink

Certainly. Strangely, though, they wouldn't allow me to smoke.

Mine was great.

I was introduced to a private clinic where the doctor spoke really good English.

I had a room to myself - in fact, I was in labour on Sunday and I was the only one at the clinic's labour/delivery unit. My room had a bath room, a TV, phone, bed etc. It wasn't huge, but it was very adequate.

Letty stayed with me the whole time after she was born and until we went home. She wasn't taken out at all, the doc and the nurses came to the room to do stuff on her - check ups and stuff. I could watch!

It was also very cheap = 2 nights 3 days was only 400,000 won, including the delivery!
