I would like to know what are my rights and what may happen in this situation. My hakwon is one of the better known names in Korea. It is changing names because it does not want to pay royalty fees for the name. My president has not mentioned anything to anyone. Everyone knows the name is changing. It has been gossiped for the past month or so. The general manager told me in secret. Now the website is changing. Etc.

Do we (the foreign teachers) ask for a new contract?

Our old visa has the old name. Do you we need a new visa?

If the contract is not suitable to our needs, can we leave?

Thanks

The visa is at the location and the sponser is the boss. Really, this is not a way for you to renegotiate. Why should it change at all? The business license will not change, that is what is important. Only the sign and the name will change and this means nothing. The business will remain in the same owner's name. This is not a chance for you grab what you can...it is not a fire sale.

----The owner of the school gave a copy of the business licence to immigration. The actual name of the school doesn't matter (only cosmetic). Your contract is still valid because the address hasn't changed and the sponser hasn't changed. I went through this myself..immigration will say the same thing.

But the visa is under the old school's name. I can only work for the school under my visa. Even though the person is the same.
