|
|
Hi,
I will be arriving in Korea in 3 weeks. I have a laptop but I am unsure of what I should bring from canada for internet connections or should I just get them there.
Might be better to have a 220 V connection bought in korea as opposed to a voltage transformer and a 110 connection.
Any advice/experiences would be appreciated!! |

You should actually have posted this in the technology forum, but since it's here: As long as your computer has a removeable power cord (2-plug type going into the computer) AND has 220 capabilty (it should!), you can buy a cord here for around $2-$3. |

Seconded. I don't know of any laptops (it doesn't mean they don't exist, however) - whose power bricks don't work on 220.
Just get a plug-adaptor (50cents) or, as ajuma said, buy the cord for a buck or two. |

Bring your power cords and buy the 500 won adaptor. Many laptops have special cords that work only on your computer, and are not interchangable. I had to buy a new power cord from Canada after my computer got stolen and the police returned it to me minus the power cord 4 months later. |

Most cables here are dirt cheap compared to Canada. A very long LAN cable can be had for about half what you'd pay in Canada. |

I just got a new iBook...are you familiar with the new power bricks? They have a slide-out thingie that has the 110v prongs on it. I also got a long power cord with three prongs (for ground) that can be slid on. Can I get the 220v slide-on thingie in Korea? I know that I can just get an ugly pin-changer plug, but it would be SO NEAT if there were a cool Apple solution!
(It looks kind of like this, but I know this is an iPod charger:

Some of my cables are three pronged, two of them being the flat kind and the third one being the round kind. Will my computer fry if I buy just a two pronged cable or put the two flat prongs into a 500w adapter and leave the the third round one outside of the adapter? |

Doing that exact thing now--plugging a 2 prong female end into the 3-prong male adapter end. No problems. |

Cut the non-standard US plug off and install a Korean standard. Cost about 50 cents. |

No...I'm not going to chop the US plug off the wire...because then I'll have the exact same opposite problem in reverse next time i head for the US. I was looking for and found the elegant Apple solution, just don't want to pay for the universality of it!
Of course I can pick up a W500 plug...I just don't want that ugly thing on my beautiful Mac power brick! |
