I've been to Apo--totally amazing if you dive. It's a marine sanctuary and absolutely one of the most incredible places you'll ever go to. Even if you don't dive, go and get your liscence there. The instructors do 1-on-1 (or couples, like my husband and I) and are great. There isn't any electricity on the island, though, except for a couple hours in the evening. No flush toilets, no showers, etc. But it's paradise. We would go back in a heartbeat. |

I've been to Malapascua twice. I enjoyed it a little less the second time, as I found it a little dirtier. The first time I was there for 10 days, the second 2 weeks. Really small, cozy, good for diving. You can walk around the entire island in about two hours. Some of the villages on the end of the island are quite cool, good way to see how the locals make their living. Some good restaurants and bars to chill out. I would recommend staying at Cocobana Cottages (although it can be tricky to get a beachfront cottageas it's quite popular) and Sunsplash Bar is a good place to eat, drink and meet people. There's also Malditos for late night dancing, drinking and womanizing with the bar staff if that's your thing.
I take it you know how to get there, so I won't bother you with those details. PM me if you want more info.
PS Have you been to Vigan, Batad or Sagada? Pure class, great change of pace from the islands. |

Been to Camiguin and the Surfer paradise (Siargao). Both are pretty kewl. Camiguin is great for diving (island is volcanic) and the last eruption was only about 60 years ago. Yes you can view the ruins of the villages that were damaged/destroyed.
We stayed at the Camuguin beach club. The resort at the hot springs is pretty good too. Ardent Hot springs and Katibaoasan falls are both up the same road leaving from the ring road that goes around the island.
Siargao was OK too. Great for surfing and the diving is ok too. We stayed at Patricks on the beach. http://www.patricksonthebeach.com/ Everything from bare bones camping to satellite TV and internet here. You might also want to look at some of the places by Cloud Nine if you are into surfing.
IF you meant Surigao, then that is the town on Mindano, not the island and we didn't go there.
You have to remember to take CASH with you to those places. ATMS do not exist there yet and credit cards are pretty hard to use too. |
