I couldn't make the deadline. I was on vacation when suddenly my boss called up saying "hey, i got this umm form, the deadline's tomorrow".

Just curious, statistically, if many like myself couldn't make it, and what the exact implications are.

Did it.

For those of you who did not, I hear there will be a mass protest and immigration office burning sometime next spring after they tell you they won't allow you to renew your E-2.

*joke*

I bet they really screwed it all up. Immigration actually keep correct records Shocked

People who didn't go could just say that they did and I bet immigration won't really know if they did. I suspect it was a huge screw up..like everything the government does.

I didn't and the other 8 foreigners at my place didn't either. All of us knew nothing about it until we read the thread on here.

Do you remember a couple years ago when the police made a big deal about how on a certain day they were going to start cracking down on motorists who creep into the crosswalk while waiting at intersections? Whatever happened to that?

I think after a while immigration will get bored of their little "We're cracking down!" fad of the season and go back to sitting around doing nothing.

Immigration more or less said "the ones who don't hand in the forms are the ones we're going to go after".

As if they would actually get off their asses and do something about it.

Here's my story....

I hold a legitimate degree and I've had an F2-1 visa for two years. I live in Seoul but I've been working in a private elementary school in Kyonggi-do for 3 years going on a 4th. I had the foresight to ask immigration last year about what this F2-1 means in terms of employment. They told me that my primary visa is F2-1 but my working visa is E2. They added that the F2-1 takes precedence over the E2 because of the fact that my Korean wife is responsible for our family, not my school! So this is how my story goes...

In November, I was given that silly form to fill out from my Korean co-teacher. I told her and the vice principal that I didn't need to report to immigration because of my immigration status and the fact that my F2-1 makes me an exception to all of this.(In truth I didn't want to go all the way out to Mokdong, at least a two hour trip each way, for no reason!). I had two Korean teachers phone immigration to confirm this. Immigration said I still had to report! I was in total disbelief! I absolutely loathed making that long haul but I went. I travelled from my school with degree and documents in hand, from Kyonggi to Seoul immigration in Mok-dong cursing like a drunken sailor....

I storm past those people selling them phone cards and tell them to "get the f***out of the middle of the sidewalk" and hear them mutter the "oh-duk-ey?" I make the right turn through the gates of hell and up to the third floor of that dump, grab a new form to fill out, and sit down. As I get to the university contact information I get up and go over to the desk to ask the two staffers," do I really need to be here today?" I give the man my card and he punches in my number and says "you don't need to be here!" I said, "excuse me?" He said it again, "you have an F2-1, you don't need to be here today, E2's only!"

I do my best to hold my temper in check.. I said, "who is the supervisor here?" Then a short man sitting on his throne behind them speaks up "I am, what can I do for you?" Then I keep my cool and kindly ask him why this happened today and told him how my co-teachers called Seoul and were told that I had to come in etc....He said that "the form being sent to your school was a mistake probably because the officer saw an E2 on your file!" I promptly told him that the website had no information on this whole "witch hunt" business concerning F2's not having to report. I recommended to them to act on that at once because there were other people like me who were coming and they could do without the stress. I also got the supervisor to give me a phone number in case some hot shot, new recruit, immigration officer comes lookin for me and I tell him or her to go f*** themselves! Here is the direct line for that verification business......02-2650-6308..

I hope you had a good read today! As with other things awry in this country you have to chalk it up to experience! Don't be afraid to give those beastards a call if you have any problems! If you happen to show up at immigration with your F2 and hold legitimate credentials as I do, let them know you are pissed and tell them that you "don't want to be tarred with the same brush"in the future!

Yes...as I said before, I went because my school did the same thing and was told by immigration I MUST report in....and like you I checked the website and as you mentioned it had no info about F-2's and so....I knew I didn't have to go...but it was a Friday off for me, and I have friends and family in the area....so...

...I went in...gave them everything they asked for...let them process it, and then asked if F-2 holders needed to do this....he said, "No."

..so my ARC has E2 on the front..but it has my F2 scribbled onto the back...I showed it to him....and he looked a bit annoyed that I had wasted two minutes of his life...well they took, like they did to you...almost 4 hours of mine in travel...anyway...

...I believe they will follow up with those who did not report (E2s) just because it has not been at all well organized and to show they have infact handled it - it has the stench of a make-work program all over it...

...I swear between my old Hogwon, the Hogwon association, and immigration, they must have asked for and copied all my credentials and what have you atleast 3 times a year since 2001...you think they would have that stuff on file somewhere by now Razz

Should they perform this (admittedly unlikely) feat though, there will be quite a few sorry teachers. Not to worry though, they will be back on a tourist visa and joining the ranks of the illegals.

That's the main problem with this thing, that it doesn't look ahead at the likely consquences. But probably five years down the road there'll be another requirement to deal with these said consequences.

Sometimes it reminds me of certain song lyrics "This is the song that never ends..it just goes on and on my friends." Laughing

I didn't mind at all because essentially me and my friend who works at another PS in my area got a day off (Friday). We spent 15 mins in Immigration and went to Seoul Pub. They should have more stuff like that! Very Happy
