| I am moving to Sokcho in a couple of weeks and wanted to hear from some people that have spent time there. I've spent a year in Korea already so i know a bit about general Korean life. What I'm curious to know is about the beaches, soraksan, ex-pat community in Sokcho, privates in Sokcho, and any personal anecdotes about Sokcho. I'm excited to be in a small and hopefully quiet city. So...if you please. |

Good choice!
Lots of nice beaches, Seorak Park in your backyard. Compact little city (pop. 100,000), quiet & clean. Friendly townsfolk.
Maybe 40 or 50 expats. Not tight-knit but they seem a pleasant bunch.
I've been here 7 years. If you'd like to meet up & ask questions when you get here, PM me. |

I did a month-long winter camp there and it was a good time. It was pretty cold though in winter so bring some warmish type clothes. Soreaksan is beautiful with lots of great hiking if you're into that.
There's a little fishing market kind of near the entrace to the Soreaksan that was pretty cool for a look around and some pics.
Short-term impression: cool place to live! But I think I might start to feel a little bit isolated. Of course if I was there longer and I met people besides the one I was doing the camp with, then it would be better. |
