Besides the obvious like wallet, keys, and money, what do you carry with you?
In my backpack, I carry a book (for long trips) tissues (for emergencies) antibacterial lotion (I have contacts and when there isn't soap, I worry) pen and pencil and a small notebook (for writing notes or giving numbers, getting numbers, explaining to Koreans something, etc.) Those are the basics.
I'm curious what others carry.

T-Money card, in my wallet.
Everyone should have one.

I print off a few pages from the forums of b3ta.com to read on the subway rides or whenever I'm extremely bored. I also always have a notebook and a pen and pencil.

Oh, and on weekends I walk around with a sharpie, in case someone passes out.

This guy actually spent the week in jail that night (in Japan) and the cops were laughing at what I wrote on the back of his head.

I am not sure whether they still do this, but, girls used to fold up in a ring, and every time I would go out drinking, I would put it on, so that when you drank the wallet dry, at least you would have that left for a taxi ride home, although it didn't really work out if you were lucid enough to remember that you had it when you ran out of money...... and bought another couple drinks with it...Laughing

I always carry my passport, insurance booklet, and bankbook. I used to be in Girl Scouts and have always lived by the motto "be prepared." I guess that's why my purse resembles a small suitcase. Aside from the usual buildup of garbage like ATM slips, paper, etc. I have:

Wallet
Passport
Insurance booklet
Bankbooks
Hairbrush
Lip gloss
Nail File
Change purse
Address book/planner
Medicine
Phone cards
Tampons
Batteries
MP3 Player
Pens
Little Notepad
Random things

And that's after I've cleaned it out, which I do on a weekly basis.

1. Cellphone,

2. smokes,

3 and 4. credit card and cash (I haven't gone fully Korean yet so I don't like paying for a 700 won donut with my credit card, exchanging about 3 bits of paper and signatures, then giving my phone number to get points for something....you scoff but I've seen it!!)

5. A hi-watt cattle prod for people who do the above...

And that's it!

Pretty close to Eamo's collection, I think. (you forgot the lighter)

THE BASICS:

Wallet (cash, bank/credit/licence/insurance plastic, Certificate of ALIEN Registration, and far too many business cards, both mine & others')

Keys (a real bundle: 2 office, 3 house, 3 gate, 2 motorbike, 2 safe, and 3 overseas keys)

'McGuyver' (heh... Foolishly forgot I had that on my person when I attempted to board an international flight -- in November 2001! Shocked Embarassed)

Mobile Phone

DEPENDING: (though some of these more often than not)

Tape Measure

Small Tool Kit

Digital Camera

Voice Recorder ('Note to Self: remember to bring voice recorder')

Filofax (the old man's PDA)

I've got one too. Who knew McGuyver was Swiss?

I did that too just this October. Not only did I have my fake Swiss Army knife in my carry-on but also 3 lighters!!

.......the security ajeossi at Incheon just laughed. He took all my stuff though. A pretty good fake Swiss Army too.

I luckily didn't make that mistake two weeks ago.

My friend, on the other hand, had a bullet belt in his checked luggage. It resulted in him being handcuffed, and the belt was melted.

I don't carry a Swiss Army knife anymore. I replaced it with a Leatherman when I was driving tour buses in Alaska. It's much more useful. Next time I'm in the US I'm going to buy a new one, though, because my current one doesn't have scissors.

In addition, I carry a mini-pharmacy including:

*Ibuprofin
*Excedrin
*Tums
*Pepto Tablets

If there's room left over (ha):
* wallet (cash, a rediculous amount of plastic, and, for some odd reason, about 40 US$)
* too bloody many keys (home, school, classroom, classroom cupboard, car)
* Burt's Bees lipbalm
* planner
* CD player (if I'm going out w/out my car)

I did the same thing just this past month! Security was very nice about it though, and even offered to let me check it. Since my bags were already checked, and I got the knife for W3000, I just let them confiscate it.

I'll bet Swiss James has Korea's largest collection of Swiss Army knives. Fake or otherwise. (Along with a massive collection of confiscated _adult toys_.)
