Have the lunatics fianally taken over the asylum?
Yes. I want a return to the Dave's of old, a time of respect and tolerence for others, when love, peace and tranquility ruled the message boards.

Duuh, are you only realising that now?

No, whatever do you mean? Dave's is the last bastion of rational discourse in an otherwise corrupt/crazy/immoral conspiracy of devil-worshiping ex-pats

Just pondering the (recent?) proliferation of posts that go over the same tired old ground.

    Americans vs. Canadians

    Holier-than-thou evangelists vs. God-hating athiests

Igotthisguitar's conspiracy theories vs. the world

Old-timers flaming newbies for asking innocent and rational questions.

Why has Dave's gone to the loonies? - This post falling under that category

    etc, etc, et-bloody-cetera
I strongly think that the Korea forums require a resident shrink (or shrinks) to cope with the assorted neroses of the resident nutjobs.
C'mon guys and girls. Can't we all just get along? Dave's shoud be somewhere to spend your lunch breaks and free periods relaxing and having a natter, not engaging in this constant and tiring barrage of vitriole and venom.

Dave's ESL Cafe Paradox #379
How exactly does one mention the subject of trolling without being labelled as one?

That was back during the old testament times, before phpBB.
You would write a post and press the submit button and 16-24 hours later an unknown and unreachable moderator would put your post up, possibly edited.
Or he wouldn't.
And you had no recourse.
A day delay between posts along with heavy moderation sort of killed a lot of the emotion, which I thought was a bad thing, but apparently you enjoyed it?

Naw, I'm just longing for a bit of variety. The current crop of debates do tend to get rather stale and boring. It's a slightly tongue-in-cheek appeal for reason.

in my years on here there has never been a golden age of interesting banter between people. The internet allows people to be as weird and / or offensive as they like I suppose.

Personally I'm just glad you can totally ignore the Current Events forum these days

Ah, I agree then, the run of Christian posts were a real kill-joy, but that's a personal opinion.
The Canuck-US threads, I find them annoying, but since you and SJ are from neither country, what's your take them?
Annoying, entertaining, ridiculous, all of the above?
I always wondered what everyone else thought of those crazy insecure threads...

I just don't read them, there are loads and loads of threads I skip- virtually anything that mentions Christianity, anything that mentions visas, anything about dogs or cats- the list goes on

Scr3w you, cats RULE! And if you don't agree, you are going straight to h3ll! It's those damn Americans who are keeping the cats down and bombing all those poor kittens everyday. And when are we going to get around to stopping those 6 month visas to dogs. Who knows how many dogs are illegally guarding homes without the proper visa? And if I hear one more Canadian tell me his cat is better than mine, I am going ballistic.

I've been in Korea for more than 10 years (having married a native), and I can't say that there is a better forum of this quality and lucid thought, despite the usual negativity every once in a while. I've been an official member for a short time, but I've been reading the forums for many years for information on how to find what where. I just never had the patience to register and wait for the email or soemthing always came up. I talk on other forums too, but this seems the best. It's got my vote.

I am interested in knowing what other forums are out there though, and it seems that there are many copycats out there.

You joined in Feb. 2005 and you're calling for a return to the "old days?"

This wouldn't be your second incarnation here, would it?
