What should I do when I get this message when trying to start Windows XP? UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
I put the WinXP CD in the CD drive and then press R when I get to the Welcome to Setup page. I type chkdsk /r at the command prompt and press enter. This is some advice I got from the internet but it's not working. |

Are you running a RAID or a serial ATA hard drive or virtual drive software like Daemon?
That's what that sort of error would lead me to believe.
Specifically, I think you are using a SATA hard drive and have a problem with your raid controller for it or some sort of loose connection hardware failure involving it.
Have you checked your boot order and IDE (or RAID if you're using SATA hard drives) settings in BIOS?
But you're getting an error only when POST is finished and the computer is trying to load windows?
Not during POST?
Definietly check your BIOS settings...
Also open the case and check to make sure the power and data connections to your HD aren't loose or something. |
