We need to get a letter of release from our current director- our contract will be ending, but the visa will be valid for a few more months.
How should it be worded? Anything that should be in it?
Thanks |

Get it on official letterhead.
Basically, below the letterhead, you may want to get your boss to put some info about you such as Name, Nationality, and Passport number.
Then the body of the letter should state something like, "We acknowledge that Mr. Bill has worked from ______ to ______ and has fulfilled all contractual responsibilities at ______ School."
Dated:
Stamped:
That's all you need.
ܱ 絵 Ǽ (centered below letterhead)
 ̸: Teacher's Name
: Nationality
ǹȣ: Passport Number
ּ: Address
ȭȣ: Telephone Number
   б(п) 2005 01 20 2006 01 20 Ծ ǽ , 2006 1 20 ķδ Ÿ ü б(п) ִٰ մϴ.
2006 1 20 (centered)
б(п)̸ (centered)

Thanks for that. Do you know if we will have to get a new Alien RC when we get a new visa? It seems like a hassle with the existing bank accounts and membership cards here.... |

Yes. If you get a LOR immigration will take your ARC and give you a 14-day exit order when you're getting your visa cancelled at their office. You will have to apply for a new one within three months when you re-arrive in Korea with your new visa. (I did exactly this last summer). I kept the same bank account. |

Yes, just bring any new docs into the bank or wherever if/when you get them. I got a new passport a few years ago and brought that into the bank to be photocopied and I have had no problems. I once had an E-2 changed without having to leave the country, but that is rare(plus, I think my director at the time probably gave the immigration officials a couple of unearned bucks). |

You can download a standard letter of release from efl-law.org
You may need to register as a member first.
Just print it off and have your boss sign it. |

I was told by a Korean, who wrote the above letter for me, that the letter on EFL-Law is not the best...but, I'm sure it'll do the trick. Make sure you get the .doc file, not the pdf, for editing purposes. Actually, you may not be able to access the letter these days as not much is accessible other than the forums...but give it a go if you wish.
p.s. I just checked the EFL-Law web-site. The letter IS accessible. Go to forums, then LOR after log-in. Click the sticky titled "Letter of Release" and then you can d/l what you need from the link posted by EFL-Law Guy there. I think the English version is fine. My supervisor said that the Korean version is not the best. |

I was told as well by two K-friends, both of whom are highly bi-lingual, that the K-translation is not very good. Try using the English one first. |
