Ok after reading quite a few of the posts here I decided to take the plunge and come to Korea to look for a job. I have applied for a few positions on the net and have had a couple of offers. But I am keen to ensure I get the right job, I have a BA and a Teaching Degree so reckon it shouldn't be too hard to track down a position.
Any tips for the job search when I get there? Where are the jobs advertised? Is there any point in visiting any schools on spec? Any other advise would be appreciated.
What should I expect in an interview as well. Tips. What is normal attire will I need a suit. I am a bloke by the way.
Plus I normally have a shaved head (grade 0) but am growing it just in case it's frowned on over there. Do I need to.
Thanks in advance |

A little bit of hair would not be such a bad thing, but we all look like freaks to them anyways. Wear a suit if it's a public school, uni, or adult academy interview. Dress smart casual if it's for a hogwan. I would just try to contact as many recruiters as possible and put up with your inbox getting flooded with bad offers every day (you never know when a good one will come along). A good hogwan - if you can find one - may be your best introduction to Korea. You're here so try to talk to other FTs confidentially. I'd also try to rent a handphone at Incheon International; you'll have a much more difficult time if you don't. You can't really just walk up to a public school but you might try it with a large hogwan or especially a large adult academy.
Good luck with things! |
