hi guys! just a quick query for those of you teaching in public high/middle schools at the mo, how many hours of english does your students have each week and do you cover them all???

For example, when I was teaching in public elementary school (yup, am an ex-GEPIKer) kids in grade 5 and 6 had two hours of English a week but I only covered one hour (with korean co-teach) and the other hour was with the Korean teacher...is that the same for high/middle schools?

I'm sure this must have been covered somewhere but whenever I'm searching I keep getting error messages! (I'm either crap at searching or just unlucky)

It's part of my MA research and your answers will be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

2 elementary schools, not GEPIK, but similar.

Gr. 3/4 - 1 Hr/Wk - Solo (no co-teacher).
Gr. 5/6 - 2 Hrs/Wk - Solo.

Afternoon classes are optional for all students from Gr. 1 to 6. Between 40 to 60% participate in them.

I do middle and high school.

Grade 1 MS: 3 45-minute English lessons a week, one with me.
Grade 2 MS: 4 45-minute lessons, one with me.
Grade 3 MS: 4 45-minute lessons, one with me.

Grades 1-3 academic HS: 5 50-minute lessons per week, one with me. Some do some extra tutoring with me on the side in small groups and some classes get extra lessons with the KTs from time to time.

Grade 1 vocational HS: 5 50-minute lessons a week, one with me.
Grades 2-3 vocational HS: 2 30-minute lessons a week, both with me. This last group was sort of an ad hoc arrangement and not typical for Korea, I think. The rest of the schedule is very typical for Korea, I believe.

Hope that helps.

Public arts high school...

1st Grade: 4 time a week, twice with me twice with the co-teacher
2nd Grade: once a week
3rd Grade: twice a week

My co-teacher and I teach all classes with the 2nd and 3rd graders together.

So I'm in the classroom for all English that gets instructed except for the 4 hours I'm not there for the two 1st grade classes.

Middle school.

1st and 2nd Grade. They get 4 lessons a week. I get 1 lesson. 1/3 of their lessons with me cover text from the dialogue. The other part are supplemental lessons from me.

3rd Grade. They get 3 lessons a week. Of which I techincally get half as I see them once every two weeks. We go straight from the book.

The co-teachers range from good, to non-existent.

The school tried having supplemental classes, but has been charging way too much for them so we didn't get the sign ups. The free camps during winter attract about 30 students out of 1,200.
