Seems that there are a lot of tortilla food freaks on this site.
As a non-American, what do you prefer - Mexican, or Italian?
For me, Italian, any day of the week. There is a reason Italian restaurants are everywhere; it's that good.
Mexican food to me is but a yawn, a wannabe next to the European greats.
So which do you prefer, if you had to choose? |

In SW/USA or Mexico, Mexican. Everywhere else in the world, Italian. If you've never had Mexican food in the SW USA or Mexico, I understand your distaste for it!
Lemonade may agree with me here.

Nothing to do with which is better, just which is easier to find. Passable Italian is available most places in Korea, so people aren't asking about it, but passable Mexican is a pretty new thing, even in Seoul. |

Hands down Italian.
Mexican food looks the same going down as it does when it comes out. |

Immigrants brought Italian cuisine from the Old World to the New World.
Thus, it now enjoys popularity in both Worlds.
Mexican food is popular enough in North America to have led to chains (Taco Bell), but until Mexicans decide to go through the added trouble and expense of flying to Europe to immigrate, Italian food will have that edge in Europe and the world. |

I've never been to Mexico and have only eaten M-food in the USA, so it probably wasn't the real deal. It was okay, I ate it, but it was nothing special. I like the green stuff that I can't spell though - similar to English mushy peas.
I've eaten Italian back home and in Italy and have worked for 18 months in an Italian restaurant and I love it. So...Italian! Italian pizza gets very boring though I think. |

As a vegetarian who eats cheese (if it doesn't contain animal rennet) I eat lots of Italian food, my favorites being lasagne (sometimes with a ground meat substitute) and egg plant parmesan, but sometimes I'll have a craving for Mexican food. As noted, guacamole is great (if the avacados are fresh and ripe) and all the refried bean preps are good (if they don't contain lard...) Nachos, tortillas, taco shells, salsa, cheese enchilladas - all good stuff. I bought a big box of frozen cheese quesadillas (Cedarlane Brand) at Hannam Supermarket, pan-fried them a little in olive oil and brought them in as part of a small adult class snack party at my school. The Koreans loved them ... |
