Hey everyone,

I'm fliyng to Korea at the start of March and was wondering what jabs everyone got before they went to Korea.

I have been advised on Hepititas A and B, Rabies, and some Japanese something (for mosquitos?).

Can anyone help me?

My doctor back home said that all he would recommend for Seoul was Hep A and B, and typhoid (transmitted through food). Since Seoul is a very developed city, he said I wouldn't need anything else. He did say that if I was going to be in a more rural area, that he would recommend Malaria. But it's just as cheap to get that here if you decide you want it. I just took his word on what was said because he was on the list of doctor's to go to for travel vaccinations on the Nova Scotia Health website I went to.

Hep A & B, Typhoid and make sure your other vacinations are up to date (ex: Polio, tetnus....).

Japanese encephalitis...I have been here since 1997, never got the shot...make your own decision.

Get anything you had as a child updated (MMR, tetanus, etc.) I think there was a measles outbreak in the summer of 2000. With that and the Hep A and Hep B (which might have been childhood immunizations for you, depending on how old you are!) you should be fine.

Who cares, we'll all die hard, vaccinations or not. Don't worry about it. Save the money and spend it on something you enjoy.

peterlewis107,

The drug companies love people like you.

Hep A & B make sense... but rabies?... give me a break! How many bats do you plan on handling?

You might not want to get Japanese encephalitis shots if you have severe allergic reactions because the vaccine is produced in mice, if I remember correctly. I've read that some protein in the vaccine can trigger some strong side affects. I have some minor allergies, but when I got that shot my lips and tongue became numb and slightly swollen.

My friend told me the nurse at the clinic he went before he came to Korea wouldn't give it to him because the risks of getting a severe reaction to the vaccine outways the risks of contacting the disease.
