Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO - Online search engine leader Google Inc. has agreed to censor its results in China, adhering to the country's free-speech restrictions in return for better access in the Internet's fastest growing market.

The Mountain View, Calif.-based company planned to roll out a new version of its search engine bearing China's Web suffix ".cn," on Wednesday. A Chinese-language version of Google's search engine has previously been available through the company's dot-com address in the United States.

By creating a unique address for China, Google hopes to make its search engine more widely available and easier to use in the world's most populous country.

Because of government barriers set up to suppress information, Google's China users previously have been blocked from using the search engine or encountered lengthy delays in response time.

The service troubles have frustrated many Chinese users, hobbling Google's efforts to expand its market share in a country that expected to emerge as an Internet gold mine over the next decade.

Don't forget: the NEW WORLD ORDER crowd is ( on the surface of things ) working on bringing EQUAL RIGHTS to everyone.

Problem is lots of us living or raised in the s0-called "FREE" WORLD don't exactly envy the Chinese situation.

Who'd wanna live under a depsotic regime, other than those perhaps with significant police-state stock investments and warped S&M agendas?

One small solution: USE OTHER SEARCH-ENGINES.

I've been using WEBCRAWLER & Dogpile more lately.

Any other "let's hold Google accountable & VOTE with out mouse clicks / key strokes suggestions?"

Oh yah ...
Keep on Rockin'

There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes
But there's a warnin' sign on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin' we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan, but I am to them
So I try to forget it, any way I can
Wink

Keep on rockin' in the free world ...

The same goes for France and Germany. In those countries Google has censored results for certain sites that deal with Nazi merchandise.

Surely nazi merchandise is a good thing to censor?

As far as China goes...sad about the censorship, but the overall impact of opening up the web to them will hopefully have a good effect.
And maybe one day for the all conquering google: North korea...

It's the second largest market. If google doesn't do it, someone else will.

Google isn't the bad guy, here. The CCP is.

Looks to me like most of the people there could've found what they were looking for if they had had ANY FUCKING CLUE AT ALL. For example, the name of an artist is pretty important if you want to find their paintings.

I did like the guy who complained that his search for the answer to the eternal question "why does women's leather armor have nipples on it?" only turned up Xena:Warrior Princess porn.

Laughing Yah ... i saw that one too.

What are some other good search engines? Suggestions?

A boycotting GOOGLE campaign should be promoted.

Forget about the phony rigged elections, these days we mostly vote with each click of the mouse / hack of the keystroke Idea

Making a mountain out of a molehill. I agree with google.. China is a fast growing market why the hell not play the game. The regime will eventually colapse. China has been changing over the past 20 years, more and more freedom will happen untill the regime collapses.

For those who campaign for freedom of speech and libertyl, China is one of the worst violators of free rights. Do you think they recognize homosexuality or Christianity? They have killed many people for speaking against their government.

Yet, obviously google doesn't care. It's ok for Google to sell out if the price is right. It just another example of how the world is governed by pride, greed and lust.

Google shouldn't have done it because they have the power to influence China by not being censored. There are other ways of influencing markets than compromising. Being the best search engine could have made China decide on whether going with an inferior seach engine and not changing their laws or going to with an advanced seach engine and becoming more democratic.

Oh well. I personally don't know which one is worse...capitalism or communism.

Google didn't have the power to influence China. If Google had refused to censor results, China would've told them to take a hike and kept on developing their own search engines.
