Ok ... here's a discussion thread i've been meaning to jump-start for some time now.

Many of us realize Korea has a problem with its homeless animals. While i'd imagine many of the dogs are quickly scarfed up by the countless lovers, cats are another story. The whole thing really breaks my heart.

The wife & i in fact recently adopted another little homeless fellow.

What would be your preference?

BTW - if anyone is looking to adopt i know of a few little kittens & a disabled dog who desperately need a loving caretaker Crying or Very sad

2 cats.

Rescued the first one from a pet store -- an older kitten near death in a filthy hamster cage subsisting on dog kibble. 2nd one mere weeks old ran up to me on a busy street. Theyre 4 & 3 now & exclusively indoor cats. I like having them around.

Thats my limit though. My new neighborhood is teeming with feral cats but they all look in fair shape. Good trash pickings I guess & woods out back for nesting.

If I had a faint clue where I'd be in a few months time, I'd probably have a pet. Since I don't, I figure it's unfair to get one now.

cat and dog...
dog was lonely..now it can chase the cat around...
cat is affectionate and surprisingly cool but not into "playing" with the dog.

Just one cat (Katydid's from her avatar). At first I figured I'd keep it for 10 months and try to dump it off on one of the other hogwan workers who lived in the same building. Then I decided to quit and get a real job and become a long-termer, so it's worked out well.

And for the record Katydid's flat wasn't *that* dirty, though her cat is a furniture scratcher.

You have Dragon? How's she doing (the little booger!)?

As for me, I have a cat & a dog. The cat I got from Canuckistan who rescued her from the street. We had some rough months at the start, but now she's a sweetheart. She's nuts, but she's a sweetheart. Wink

The dog was the offspring of a neighbor's dog. He sold/gave away all the others in the litter, but Osito was too big and no one wanted him. So, he ran around our apartment/school area with his mommy for 2 months. One day, he was hit by a car. His owner took a look at him, and then dumped him on the ground near his doghouse to live or die... he didn't care which. So, I grabbed the poor creature and took him to the vet to have him put down. The vet said he was injured, but with a bit of care he'd be OK, so I left him there for about 5 days. When I brought him home, sore but in one piece, the owner said I could have him (duh... like I'd give him back after paying the 250,000 won vet bill!!).

I love animals. If I had the space, I'd take in more.

I'd personally prefer cats to dogs, and I could even accommodate both -- cats inside and dogs outside. But I keep ending up with these "rescue situation" dogs, and it just wouldn't work out. At least one of them would reduce a cat to blood & fur within seconds. (I'm not just "sure of that"... I know that.) So it's dogs for me for the foreseeable future.

Most homes around here have dogs. Big, barky ones, and many of them seem fairly mean, too. I'd be the odd-house-out if I didn't have a few, though mine are just big and/or barky, not mean. Not unless you're a cat.

Is that your standard response to the pet questions? Or are you hinting at some potentially cataclysmic changes in 2006 for the Peppermint Girl? Surprised

She's all right, though getting a little fat. She'll be pretty bored this weekend as I'm away and she's home alone. She has a much bigger place now to run around. I'll try to post a pic when I'm back home. She's still as clumsy as hell with part of her tail missing, and the extra weight doesn't help. Summer was a bit rough for her as I had to move her around a bit and she was with a friend of mine who had a cat that didn't like her.

We want another pet to keep our dog company whilst we are at work. A cat could kick the crap out of my Maltese but then again another dog would mean territorial disputes (lots of pee everywhere) .. so I am stuck.. If anyone has a cat that has had the full shots I would be up for a trip to grab it.

The page looks fine in my browser.

Any recent NEWS or stories of adoptions or rescuing hapless little abandoned Korean animals?

Has anyone contacted the SPCA in their area? I guess they keep the animals ( supposedly ) for 60 days, and then kill them.

On a sad note, i saw a cat the other day lying on the sidewalk as i walked to the gym. Stopped & looked at it closely for about 2 minutes. Coula swore i saw it brreathing ( ever so faintly ).

Finally i nudged it with the tip of my shoe & realized it was stiff as a board Shocked

Poor kitty Crying or Very sad
