This is an extension of my previous thread about "Frustrated with job search."

Well, I have a couple different plans in the works for coming over, and it was pointed out that if I can't get over there until April, that I would probably miss the best time for getting jobs, with the new semester about to start.

It was a good point, and I could move my planned trip to Korea up to the beginning of March, but I'm not sure that would really help me that much.

Am I better off waiting until June or so, then coming over for a summer camp?

Any thoughts at all along these lines are greatly appreciated.

Not knowing your qualifications I can tell you that for hogwans it's March, and for unis it started around December, and will go until next month. Keep in mind that unis will hire you now, but you will not start until March.
Note: Hogwans will hire you now and hope that you can begin that same week.

There isn't really a hiring season for hagwons. Generally they hire for the first of whatever month is coming up

Yeah, what are you looking for and what is your experience? If you're a first-timer, coming over and finding one of the better hogwans - where you can speak to foreign staff confidentially - might be best. I know someone who could probably line up a few interviews for you, depending on your credentials, if you want to PM me.

Thanks for the responses. They're quite helpful.

To answer your questions, I'm a first-timer for teaching, but not for Korea. I just finished my Master's degree in Public Administration in August, which included a 7-month stay at a Korean University. I know basic Korean.

I have work experience as a coordinator for an intensive ESL program here in the US. However, I've never actually taught before. I also have experience editing patent applications.

I'm currently working for the State of Missouri and, well, I hate it. Every day that goes by further disillusions me towards public service. Should've stayed in Korea a bit longer. Thinking about going on for a PhD after a while.

So yeah, that's basically my qualifications. I'm deciding if I want to take a "vacation" to come over and look for jobs, or just quit my current job outright and head over. Problem is, I won't have money to live off of for long if I just head over.
