Can anyone convert or show me where to find this visa application document in a format other than HWP?

Is this application different than the ones at http://www.immigration.go.kr/HP/COM/bbs_03/ListShowData.do (which have to have the .exe manually deleted from the filename!)

Go to Download Forms
Go to page 2
Click Application for VISA
There they have the application in .pdf and zip form.
If you've got Adobe reader on your computer there should be no problem.
