hi hope u can help
i want a simple program that allows me password protect folders files from others on my computer.
doesnt need to be totally fool proof, just to keep computer illiterate flatmates out
dont want a big security encryption program thats all i seem to find on the net
i thought windows allowed this but cant seem to locate activate this feature if it exists

Are you running XP? If so, just create a user account for them, and limit access to your folders in your settings menu.
If you're not running XP, I don't know.

If your flatmates are really illiterate, right click the folder you want them out of, and go 'properties>attributes', click the box that says 'hidden', and 'yes' when it asks if you want to apply the changes to all files and subfolders.
You can then hide that folder when you are away by going 'tools>folder options>view.do not show hidden files and folers>.
This will work, but (assuming you use XP), I think it would be easier to put a password on your account and make a 'guest account' for your flatmates. When you want them out of your files and settings, you can just 'logoff' from your account or 'switch users' and they will be unable to access any files or programs that you don't give them permission to. |
