| I'll be looking forward to hearing more about the implementation of intel dual cores on Sager's forums. AMD already has a dual core compatible MOB for it's 64 X2 chips, but it still only allows up to 2gb of ddr3 RAM. It would be nice if they could push it to at least 4gb for upgradeability. I'd like to see how the 945 chipsets will stack up against what AMD has already put out, especially since I'll finally be able to make a purchase of a Sager laptop in the Spring. |

| Well, it looks like the Dual-Core Centrinos are going to start at $1,700 US, according to that article (or maybe it was another article I saw). I am sure the AMD offerings will be within $200 either way. |

I fucking well won't be. I'd still be limited in upgrading and expanding and it'll be a little while yet before laptops get to even the half-terrabyte of hard-drive space that I have now (with lots of slots left to expand to). One monitor sucks (I know they can support two, but who's going to carry around an extra monitor?)
Naw. Take the best laptop on the market today and you still have half of my machine at twice the price. |

Ok, so the_beaver is one person that does not fit into the definition of "a lot of people."
Next poster, please. |

I'm not sure why anyone would even want to be traveling with half a terrabyte of information on a laptop. If you really must have that much storage, put it on a removable, portable, or external drive and leave it at home to be hooked up via usb when you dock your laptop. BTW, sager computers are very flexible and not so limited as you would think as far as upgrading goes, especially with the D900T (intel), and D900H (amd), shells which are running the most powerful laptop platforms in the world right now.
To a desktop enthusiast, 12.5 pounds may be stretching the definition of portability, but at least I can take my system with me when I visit mom and pop at home. Also, when/if I ever move back, I won't have to dismantle my system and attempt to get my precious components back without screwing them up. I also won't have to set everything back up in a new case once I get there... time wasted if you ask me. I much prefer to throw my system into a notebook backback and have everything up and running instantly, wherever I go. Remember, this is not a rough laptop anymore than it is a laptop meant for actually taking with you on business trips or vacations. It is a gaming laptop. |

People always say "I can take it with me", which is an advantage. But with what I do, a unit that I can take with me won't cut it. Try opening half of the MS Office suite, Premiere 1.5, Photoshop CS2, three or four internet things and using bittorrent and eDonkey. Worse, do it with just the one small screen.
I wouldn't mind owning a laptop, but it would always have supplemental status. |

I'm not denying that it would be nice to be able to do all those things at once - but really, how many people really NEED to do all that at once? |

When I was coding my webpage last year, I was running Photoshop CS, Dreamweaver MX, Mozilla, Firefox, Opera, and IE (all at once for testing purposes), eDonkey, CuteFTP Pro, WMP, and MS Word at the same time. This was on my current laptop which is a P4m 2.3/512mb. It ran a little sluggishly, but workable. You just have to get good at switching panes more efficiently!
In reality, I really would prefer to get a full desktop system, but my lifestyle just doesn't make it practical. Once I settle permanently in one place, I will set up a rockin desktop system, but until then, I will be using laptops. I can't wait to get a Sager. |

hey beav...the new comp is already being challenged....and by a laptop!
Gotta hate tech....gets old fast. Oh well...divert the attention, eh? Yeah...2 monitors is cool....but far from necessary. All the apps you speak of don't need to be watched. The ones that do...well....what are you, a chameleon?

You call that a challenge? When it gets close I can overclock my chips to 4ghz per. . . and I still have 4 empty slots for more hard drives. . .
pfff.
challenge my ass. |
