Hello everyone,

I have a question about re installing windows. A few days ago I restarted my computer after a freeze and I found that all of my Internet connections were deleted. I tried to reinstall the network drivers but couldn't figure it out. So I backed up all of my information and I decided that it was time for a re install of windows. I got out my Windows XP pro disk that came with my Dell and tried to do a re install. Everything was going fine until I was asked to enter my Windows CD Key.

I entered the cd key which is attached to my Dell lap top and windows says that it is not the correct CD key? WTH. So I formated my disk and I again tried to install windows from a cd boot, and still it says that my windows key is invalid??? Shocked How could this be?

Anyone know how this could happen?

Could it be a virus or worm or something?

Thanks a trillion

That's WEIRD.

During the install, if you're getting an invalid product key message, make sure you're typing everything correctly. Some of those letters are easily mistaken for others, especially if it's smeared or damaged.

Turn numlock off.

Check the CD. Make sure your CD isn't scratched, smudged or likewise. This is known to sometimes affect this part of the install.

Otherwise, call up Microsoft and tell them your problem. They'll check the part number of your CD and your PID, and see if they are the same. If they are, they'll generate you a new one.

OR

Use your favorite P2P network to grab a copy of win xp pro corporate. These don't require entering a serial. There are many great tweaked unattended versions on bittorrent sites.
You will need to run the anti activation hack included on these disks.
I know it sounds like a mission.......but it is a last resort, and I can't for the life of me understand why your OEM serial doesnt work anymore.

Actually if you want a pro corp disk let me know and I will PM you the link to my server.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info. I am going to try the to call Microsoft first, if no luck then I will try the registry edit and/or Script to change the Key. If no luck with that I will might have to get a copy of Windows some other way...
