Ok,
I am planning to pick up one or the other. I am not waiting for the PS3 or the XBox 2, as I am cheap and part of the appeal is how cheap consoles are right before a new version comes out.
Anyways, I have always been a big fan of the PS2, but after spending christmas playing my brother's XBox, I am starting to reconsider. If you were going to buy an XBox or a PS2, which would you buy and why? |

depends what type of games you enjoy playing.
Xbox is great for:
sports
racing
and some FPS's.
PS2 is great for:
RPG's
FPS
These are the two main separates...decide from there.. |

I just got a modded xbox and I love it. Its great because you can put the games right on the consule. I take it to technomart n my guy hooks me up with whatever game I need. Once I get internet at my place I'm going to network it with my computer...super pumped! Only xbox problem is there doesn't seem to be as many games available |

Maybe I will try some more specific questions about the XBox:
1) DVD: I understand that you need to buy an additional piece of hardware to play dvds. Is the quality comparable to the PS2?
2) Hard drive: Not having to buy memory cards seems like a big plus. Other than that, does having a hard drive have any big advantages?
3) Online: Everything I have read seems to suggest that the XBox has much better online features. Is this true?
4) Availability of English games in Korea: Anybody found it easier to find games for one system over the other in Korea?
Thanks |

hey discostar...what's the "modded xbox" and where's the best place to look in seoul? Is it a do it yourself type deal, or can you buy them modded? |

I got mine at Game Park. The guy there speaks fluent English.
He has the new XBox from Japan for around 400K. Me? I'll wait til next month, or March and get the Korean version. |

I recommend you get an Xbox (the first one, not 360). A modded Xbox is the GREATEST machine ever!
If you're not a Japanese-RPG super-fan, you can find almost everything you'd want to play on the Xbox. Most multi-platform games end-up looking better on Xbox than PS2.
An Xbox can be soft-modded (no need to open the case, and no need to buy a modchip) to run all sorts of wonderful applications, and also play copied games. Game ISOs can be downloaded off the Internet using BitTorrent. You won't have much luck buying legit Xbox games in Korea, because they're pretty much PC freaks here.
The best use for a modded Xbox is Xbox Media Center (XBMC). With this installed, you can:
- watch any region DVD movie without the additional dongle
- watch almost any format/file-type video from a CD-R/DVD-R or a shared network folder on your PC/laptop
- listen to " " music " "
- view " " pictures " "
- check the weather over the Internet
- listen to ShoutCast streams
- listen to WebRadio
- watch movie trailers from the Internet
- play games from classic consoles (SNES and older)
- AND MANY MORE THINGS...
I only wish I brought my archive of over 280 Xbox games. Instead I only brought 25. At least I brought the emulator discs, which contain thousands of classic games.
So, yeah...go with the Xbox, man! |

Key reason why Xbox is better- any game ever made for it is available on torrents. With a $20 cable you can put them directly on the xbox. No worries about language, no paying for games, just easy and simple. |

Ok...the Xbox is sounding like the way to go.
Somebody mentioned Game Park... is that in Technomart.
Also When I go, what exactly should I be getting if I get a modded xbox, and how much should I be paying.
Thanks again for all the input |

At yongsan go underground. In the markets you will see a big EA sign right inside the door. GO into that building. I like the dealer with the big afro (you'll see him). A modded xbox with a built in hard drive+ games should be around 300.000 (give or take 20). Bargain!!!! They will throw in games or drop money off!!! In korean it sounds like Ga*Ka Ju*say*yo, (discount please) |

I agree with everything people are saying about the modded XBox, mine is amazing, and I use it mostly for the media centre rather than games.
The guy I got mine from is in Yongsan as well, in the bit on the same side of the road as Yongsan station, where most of the games consoles are. He's just a few stalls in from the entrance and has got some kind of birth mark on his face.
That guy is great, speaks perfect english, game me a good price on mine, and is a lot better to deal with than a lot of the shady characters down there.
Also to the experts- if I've got an ISO of a game, how do I play it without burning it onto a DVD? |

Got my Xbox, and it rocks. I picked up an xbox with a 120 gig hardrive, 12 games, and everything in English for 300,000. Thanks for all the advice. |
