I am thinking of buying a DVD player...I saw a thread about region free players...it was useful....however...it was mostly on region free and price saving. w80,000 to 140,000
I am interested in more of a high quality region free dvd player...I watch a lot of movies...now, I want to to use it for language study, too...what kind of quality player can you get in the W200,000-300,000 range, in Korea...YongSan or elsewhere?
Thanks
P.S. I posted this in the technology forum...I'm sure this is where this post belongs...but...I rarely read that forum myself...and maybe some with knowledge on this subject don't read it often either...so for the mods...please excuse this double post. |

I recently bought a Silady player for ~70,000 and it seems to be working fine (I watch many DVDs too) So I wonder why you would want to spend more money? This Silady machine plays MP3s, can do surround sound, English menus, all that good stuff. Do these more expensive players have better picture quality or something?
Not criticising, just questioning. |

Hmm, you can also try Denon players at dasanav.com. My friend has researched a bunch of sites on the Web and says this has the cheapest prices for foreign components. But well, Denon players don't come cheap so if you don't mind paying 400,000 to 500,000 won for a high-quality DVD player, check it out. |

Thanks for the information...
Destroyer....good question....it isn't that I want to spend more money...I've just heard people complaining about region free and picture quailty...and now with High Definition Tvs I was interested in knowing the ins and outs of HD DVD players.
Yaya...those Denon players are sweet...hmm...while I was researching them I could hear(in my mind) the BareNaked Ladies..."If I had a million dollars" |

Yo, hold off on buying a DVD player. The HD-DVD and Blu-Ray machines will come out around year's end, so no point in buying a player that will soon be out of date. If you're gonna splurge, splurge later and for something that is next generation.
I ordered my DVD player from 220-electronics.com and have had little problems. It's an overseas site.
But just about any Philips DVD player sold in Korea probably has a remote control hack and does PAL conversion nicely. If you need one faster, I'd suggest the Philips 642 model that does Divx, too.
