Firstly, please avoid this thread if you think dogmeat is reprehensible. I understand and respect your view, but I do not share it. Please respect my free choice. Secondly, this is not a "Wow, I eat dog, aren't I clever?" thread. Thirdly, this is not a "let's be controversial" thread. Please either address the issue directly or eff off.

Anyway, that's the "you know you're posting a thread on Dave's ESL Cafe when....." moment out of the way. To business.

Anyone been here? Any good? Got directions (subway exit, go straight, turn right etc etc)?

Whoa, I've never heard of anything like that. My girlfriend just went to try dog meat a couple nights ago and didn't bother to invite me.

If it's meat, I'll eat it.

If anyone is up for a cat meat session, PM me (I'm serious). Offer valid until the end of Feb. It will be wild cat.

Dog meat eating is wrong because of the cruel way they kill dogs - they beat them to death to raise the level of adrenaline in the animal which is supposed to make their flesh taste better. It's wrong - end of story.

I real good place to go for the dog soup is Moran Station Dog Market. You get a chance to see the dogs, which is interesting, see the way they are kept, and the restaurants are sort of outdoor stand style, so the price is very reasonable, just get of the (Seoul) subway yellow line at Moran, and go out the exit with "Moran Market." Haven't tried the restaurant you mention, probably good, but I figured dog was made into soup, because it has a bit tough meet, maybe not ideal for steaks and so on. What makes dog so interesting a food, except the obvious, is that humans do not generally eat predators (we eat cows, goats, rabbits etc). By the way at Moran Market you can also get live goat, duck and chicken, I have never seen goat or duck available anywhere else, but maybe haven't looked hard enough.

EDIT: the post above just came in, I may be ignorant, but at Moran dog market there is clearly no dog beating going on, it's just straight butchery as like goat slaughter.

Apparently they electrocute them nowadays, so the cruelty angle is no longer applicable.

Always reminds me of that really funny Simpsons episode:

The X-Files episode:

Leonard Nimoy: The following story is true. By true I mean false. But it's funny. And isn't that what matters? No.

Same episode:

Homer: Hmm, bold, refreshing, and something I can't quite put my finger on

[Scene shifts to brewery, where dogs are swimming in vats of beer. ]

Brewery worker: Needs more dog

People have a knee-jerk reaction to dog meat. Much like horse meat. I wonder what it taste like....though I suspect it isn't anything special. Kind of a novelty I would think.
