Korea beat U.S.A 7-3.
I watched the last 7 innnings. It was the longest 2 hours of my life. I thought I was having a nightmare. Just like Canada, Korea probably won't advance but U.S.A. will. |

Clearly the Americans just assumed they'd be world champs because they command the highest salaries. They've been walking thru their games, assured of victory. |

I'm really not looking forward to hearing ALL about this from my Korean adjoshi friends. I wish I could hide in my house for a week. |

Nope. The US still has to beat Mexico in order to advance. |

Consider if Korea takes it:
1) There are going to be a lot of Korean players in the American majors in the next couple years.
2) Korean leagues are going to have to start scouting new talent. Half their cream is going to be heading state side. |

Hold on now,
Due to Koreas good performance at this series that doesn't mean that you will see dozens of Kims, Parks, Choi's and the like in the majors next year.
Granted you willl see a lot more MLB scouts spending time on the rock scouting potential players, but lets not jump to conclusions here.
There is a difference between playing for your country in a first time baseball affair than playing on a daily basis against the best players in the world.
Don't get me wrong, you will see more koreans in the MLB over the next few years but time will tell if they actually make an impact big enough for them to stay and be productive a la chan ho park. |

How all the cheers coming from the male teachers' lounge warmed my heart yesterday afternoon. It must feel like Canada losing to Switzerland to the yanks. |

Well, everyone loves an underdog, especially when these Korean players being paid a relative pittance are soundly thumping guys who make more in one hour of their life than a whole team of Koreans make in a year. Hell, even the American fans booed their bunch of overpaid layabouts.
As a Canadian, I kind of liked watching our men's team choke. A little chin music for Gretzky. That whole thing with his wife being involved in sports betting seemed just wrong. |

I have to agree. I also felt the same way in '98. Wouldn't it be fun to see a game between the NHL and Sweedish / Finish A or Russian league all-stars? |

Starbucks today (March 17) is offering a cinnamon swirl latte for 4,000 won, in anticipation of Korea winning 4 games straight. The going price is 5,400 won. The sign is only in Korean but with some basic Korean you can figure out what the deal is. (Although at first I read WBC as "water board commission" and thought the Starbucks had posted a warning about tainted water and they were being closed down.) |

Korea has won 6 games straight so they will be going for # 7 next. U.S.A. is out, today Mexico beat U.S.A. 2-1. Korean people say it's a "miracle" that they beat U.S.A. I say that this is the 1st WBC so those who made predictions simply overrated U.S.A. and other teams. Most people in America do not care about the WBC.
The smart baseball fan knows that the best baseball in the world is played in the United States Major leagues which does not mean only America. Koreans get confused, they think that just because they beat the U.S.A. they are great. Yes, it is true that the best baseball talent/minds did come from America and the American money and scouts supported 10-12 year olds from around the world(Domican Republic) for future television revenue. I'm happy that people from around the world enjoy the game I grew up playing. I'm sad that Americans ignore talented youth within our own borders.
U.S.A. had a 43 year old pitcher(Clemens) and a guy(Dontrel Willis) from the Florida Marlins acting as starting pitchers. Dontrel got slammed in his last game last year in the playoffs and he use to pitch for the Cubs. Most of the other pitchers were relief and the batters can't run. I think I could beat Chipper Jones in a race to 1st base. What the hell is Chipper doing on the team anyway?
The Korean team has been playing together for years since high school and college. I'm not making excuses, I cheered for Choi, Hee-sop when he played for the Cubs(I'm a diehard fan). And Koo is a great pitcher. Korea plays well together and has all the motivation in the world to win.
America don't care! Maybe sometime in the future things/attitudes will change? |

Pitching certainly wasn't the problem in the Mexico / USA game.
For the states it was the fact they only scored ONE run!
Their bats just weren't connecting.
GO CUBA !!! |
