Korea might have it locked like they do archery.

Seriously, how hard is it to close a door quietly?

This is something that should be taught to children before their motor skills are functioning at full capacity: "don't slam the door."

Here, not that big a deal.

I liken it with horking and spitting as a cultural thing where the person committing the heinous act doesn't consider anyone else when he/she does it. Both aren't purposefully meant to offend (in most cases), but, God, does it ever piss me off.

It's almost as annoying as the phbb error.

Almost.

Slamming doors? I suppose so. Most doors in my world have pneumatic closers, so people really can't slam them. Gates, that's another thing. Had two gates at two houses that Koreans just loved to slam. They weren't angry ... they just like slamming them. Constantly had to repair them.

Rather than slamming doors, how about opening doors without knocking? Or knocking and opening before you have a chance to answer?

General stairway ruckus is a Korean dominated event; it, of course, consists of stomping, annoyingly loud conversation, and the all important door slam.

I whole-heartedly agree Koreans are perpetual gold medal contenders in general stairway ruckus.

My personal pet peeve: I live smack in the center of a small apartment complex. Dead center. Therefore, ALL the young ajummas congregate right outside my window with their squealling, screaming, crying pre-schoolers every warm day. Arg! But the clincher: they don't pay any attention to their kids, so the kids climb all over the cars.

I nominate Korean 4 year olds in the Car Climbing Sprint. How a 4 year old can be 10 feet from his mom and scream, "Omma!" over and over again at 52 dBs while stomping his little feet on the roof of my car and still be ignored is beyond me.

Make it the noise decathalon and add things like
  • talking loudly on cell phones
  • Mr. Microphone in the supermarket
  • students in the hallway during exams
  • expressing oneself after drinking water on a hot day on the mountain
  • gas tank delivery
  • door-to-door truck goods sales
  • etc...

You get style points in the stomping event with clancking heels.

You missed "clacking heels" -- the subject of the previous two posts. Confused
Lay off the drugs, son.

Reminds me of when I climbed Ѷ and this young ajumma took this little sip of water and expressed the loudest "ִ!!!!!!" I have ever heard, with that continuing phlegmy sound after, like she was experiencing the orgasm of her life. I still make fun of this girl and mimic her to my girlfriend (korean) almost one year later and she still laughs. I wanted to walk up to the lady and express to her that it was just water and she probably drinks lots of it every day, so just relax.

koreans love noise. A simple conversation is a shouting match, and people only feel comfortable sleeping at night if the air is filled with the sound of construction and pneumatic drills. Morning calm my a$$

Got a door slammer in my building. Sometimes it gets to me, sometimes it doesn't. But when it gets to me, mate, does it ever piss me off. My wife gets upset at me for being upset at the noise. I can't win.

I blame the door slamming on the doors, something about the design maybe? I live in the "waygookin villa" ( you really can order pizza, with that and an apartment number here) and theres still lots of slamming.

Granted... the doors, though pneumatic, are heavier than most of us are used to and have a tendency to slam if left to close freely. The 1st night I was here the door slammed, thought to myself "Better ease the door closed."
