Hi, can't access the efl-law.org website so I'll post here..
I'm a Canadian who just did a winter camp on a C-4 visa. The visa is for 3 months and it expires mid-March. My period of sojourn was for 30 days, which ended on Jan. 30th. I assumed that I was allowed to be in the country until my visa expired but I've recently heard that I must leave the country as soon as my period of sojourn has passed. If this is the case then I've overstayed my visit by about 15 days and I've been told there's a fixed fine of 100,000 Won, but also been told it's 100,000 Won per day! Others have told me that I have a 14 day grace period after my period of sojourn before I must leave. I don't know what to believe so I'm going to the Canadian embassy on Monday to get advice before I head to Korean Immigration.
Yet another little bird told me that I'll be given a choice: pay the fine, or leave the country within 24-hours - any truth in this?
What would happen if I tried to leave to country for Japan and re-enter on a traveller's visa, without going to immigration first - would it be a sticky situation?
Since the camp ended I've been travelling around Korea, visiting friends and was also hoping to get a one year contract to teach. Can anyone help me out and tell me the facts about what I can expect to happen? Thanks in advance. |
