I am currently teaching a discussion class. Currently I am using a book that has a short story about normal life events such as divorce, family problems, relationship problems, belief in some power like God or a sixth senes. Then we discuss these things. I would like to use a book next semester that talked about the culture of English speaking countries or the U.S. Does anyone teach a discussion class and can you recommend any interesting books?

For adults (or mature teenagers, maybe that's an oxymoron).

Taboos and Issues by Richard MacAndrew and Ron Martinez.

Covers such topics as nudity swearing, bribery and corruption, the sale of human organs, national stereotypes etc.

Good for vocabulary, reading and discussion.
