I have been offered several jobs. My recruiter, the one i've been speaking to the most has recommended Poly Returnee. I did the interview and have an offer.
Are they reputable? They seem to be but I wanted to see what this board had to say. The people at Park English speak highly of them. |

Which one is it? Ask about any extra work and of COURSE talk to a teacher there.
Each Poly school is different. |

I know a guy who worked there. They work you HARD. Not worth the pittance of extra pay given. Another 200,000 to 300,000 won per month for working an extra 40 hours per month isn't worth it, in my book!
Lots of grading/checking/etc.
And he told me they wouldn't let him sit down during class! |

There are two kinds of schools...the Poly Direct Campuses and the franchise campuses. Which one are you being offered a job at?
Out of curiousity what is the name of the person your talking to? |

While I'm not sure about the school, I teach a handful of returnees within my hagwon and compared to teaching your regular kids, teaching returnees is a joy. Their english level is higher. They're slightly more motivated (they have friends back in North America/KiwAus/UK they want to talk to). When you shout at them, they know what you're saying.
But yeah, unless you're really in Korea for the money, I'd not work an extra 10 hours a week for 100-200K. |

I have had 2 friends that have worked for Poly over the past few years. Both found new positions before the end of their contracts because of the extra hours they were required to work. As a few others have said, you have to do a lot of grading and marking. |

POLY is good in the sense that the kids are great. Teaching returnees is much easier and more fun as well (IMHO). But the workload is a lot. You need to work pretty hard and spend a lot of outside class time marking work and preparing evaluations. Also depending on your shift the pay rates are 2.4 million for the 3 - 9 shift and 2.8 the longer kindy shift. I heard from a couple people that they are trying to lower their pay. POLY also has a well-deserved reputation for not paying a full month's severance pay (happened to me too) making up some last minute deductions, etc. It was only a few hundred thousand, but it happens. Other than that, it was actually a fairly good place to work on a daily basis. Good luck with your choice. |
