|
|
I'm in a different set-up than most on this board, and I need to regularly withdraw money from my overseas bank account. Recently the ATM machine I regularly used was changed somehow so that you can only withdraw 200,000 won at a time. My bank account in the U.S. charges everytime I withdraw from it, so I'd like to withdraw all I need monthly in one fell swoop to avoid extra charges.
Anyone know of an ATM machine (preferably in Nowon, or in the downtown district) without this limit? |

Are you sure it's the ATM and not your bank at home imposing the limit? I've never heard of any ATM in Korea with a limit. How many ATMs have you tried? Maybe you've been using an oddball machine, but I would try contacting your bank if you have the same problem with more than one ATM. |

I've seen limits of 700.000 won per wirthdrawl and, I think, 7 million in one day. I never withdraw that much so I don't honestly remember the limit.

Thanks, Nick. I have contacted my bank, and their limit is $500. There are three different ATM machines I have tried in Nowon Gu, and they all have 200,000 won limits...what's the deal??!!!
If you or anyone else ever uses one without this limit, would you please let me know where it is? One of the ones I use used to not have this limit, then when they redecorated the lobby and changed the position of the machines, suddenly this changed, too.
KPRROC - I wish you were in Seoul, not Jeju! The 700,000 won limits you've seen I assume are in Jeju? Too far to travel for an ATM withdrawal! |

The KB* ATMs are usually good...If you find a decent sized branch, they will have a couple with the international stickers on..Limit of 500k... |

The KB ATMs at the Express Bus Station- Central City- Mall complex (upper-level) Orange line 339 has a one million won limit for withdrawals...
(It's right near Central City ticket booths for their buses to the airport, and there's a regular Kookmin branch there, too...If you get to the main entrance of the Youngpoon Book store just go up the escalator, turn left, and you should see about a dozen ATMs) |

Rteacher - kisses on both your cheeks! I have an appointment right near that very escalator on Monday afternoon, and Monday's when I needed to make my withdrawal! Thank you for your clear directions and for taking the time to help me. |

There's a KEB ATM in Insadong with a limit of 700,000 Won. It's inside the Vistor Information Center on the north end of the street, not too far from the Anguk subway station on Line 3. I wasn't charged a fee when I used my American ATM card and it has English instructions. As an added bonus, I wasn't charged a fee from my American bank when I used this machine...really didn't investigate that end, why cause trouble where there is none?
You can also get there from the Jongno Samga station since you're coming from Nowon. When you come out of the station, go west for several blocks until you come to Insadong street. Turn right and walk north. You'll see the Visitor Information Center on the left about 100m from the end of the street. |

I know that my bank in the US has an atm limit of $200 per day....As another poster said, it might be your home bank that is limiting how much you can withdraw. |

Thanks to all who helped. The problem must be with my bank after all, even though they told me they have a $500 limit. I went to one of the ATM's suggested today, and again was only able to withdraw $200 at a time, with a limit of twice. I will have to go to another bank tomorrow. And I'm going to try to sort it out with my home bank on the phone tonight.
To the curious mafioso, I will explain this much: I don't earn my money in Korea; I get it from America, deposited into my American account. I also have an account at Kookmin to handle my Korean expenses, but I need to withdraw my money from my American account. |
