have changed my mind.
Hello all!
I'm wondering about my situation--
My boss asked me about renewing last month...I told him maybe for 3 months....and now he wants an additional 1 1/2 months.
There's a better offer that awaits...and now I've reconsidered what i've told him.
Thing is, my contract expires in 3 weeks...
Anyone have any suggestions? Meaning, if i say no, would this
mean no severance/airfare home due to a possibly irate owner?
Is this a risk? or common, as I've never dealt with a contract ending before(1st year).
thanks,
william |

Legally you should be ok, although it's not very nice of you to wait to the last minute to tell him you won't be staying. What he does about it depends on him. But since you will be staying in Korea, you can contact the labor board if you do not get all the money he owes you. |

If your boss wanted to replace you, he wouldn't hesistate.
If you want to go, tell him now. Don't hesitate either. You owe him nothing if you finish your contract. You could be nice and help him search, if you like. |

You have to lie to him until the end of the contract. He will dump you if you say you are not renewing. |

Not a good move at all. The boss will likely hand him a new contract before the old one is up and ask him to sign. Then the boss will have every reason to be annoyed. And who can blame him? Give notice and do the right thing. You can always contact the labour board if he doesn't give you the money. Plus it won't look good to the labour board if you admit that you lied to the boss. |

BAD idea. This is called burning bridges. And in Korea, its a bad idea. Bad idea anywhere. You want to get a rep as a flake who lies and then leaves without notice? Good luck finding good work later on. |

Tell him now so he can find a teacher to replace you. You want to get your money in a timely fashion, correct? You screw him around and he will for sure screw you around...he has to pay you..but he can really delay the paying. |
